Hi!
Color coding can be very useful when dealing with lots of information, and that's why the Highlighter tool is an important part of my workflow. I think the highlighter tool on IQ can improve on some aspects, so I made a wishlist with things that I would like to see both on the Grid pane and the HTML Editor:

  1. toggle on/keep the tool selected option
-Description: if I want to select several parts of a text, IQ requires me to select the text, then click on the highlight button (or the back color), then select another part and click on the highlight button again, and so on, but I would like to be able to click the highlighting tool once and start selecting parts of the text to be highlighted (like on a PDF reader).
-Software that have this feature: TreeDB; LibreOffice Writer; and most PDF readers.

  1. one click color
-Description: This have been described before (http://www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php?q=node/1657), so I will quote the orignal poster: "Basically, you select some text and press the button (or shortcut) and it will change the background color to yellow (or whatever color you chose). The button has a drop down that lets the user select a different color if desired." The original poster was talking about the HTML Editor, but, adicionaly, I would like to see this feature on the Grid pane. I see that this is partially fullfilled with the "Highlight text" tool, but I miss the "drop down that lets the user select a different color if desired".
-Software that have this feature: MyInfo; ConnectedText; RightNote; Ultra Recall; TreeDBNotes; Whiz Folders; OneNote; LO Writer; most PDF readers.

  1. more than one button on the toolbar
-Description: Being able to pin more than one Highlight tool button on the toolbar, each one with a different color.
-Software that have this feature: RightNote, LO Writer.

Thanks!

 > one click Color.
The grid also has that feature (item back color), but you have to reselect the Color each time.
The process goes like this:
1-select text
2- click on "item back color"
3- select the Color you want.

For #2, I actually have a shortcut to make that  quiker. Ctrl+Shift+Alt+H, and then I use arrows to navigate to my preferred Color.

For color coding I rely extensively on conditional formatting. You could try that (it's in the help file). Conditional formatting has the advantage of being automatic, once set.

I think my mention to the HTML Editor made you misunderstand me. I'm talking about a feature that is neither in the HTML panel nor in the grid panel. I will rephrase to make it more clear: I want to select a piece of text in the grid and click one button to make the background color become green. See that it's already possible to do this, but only with the yellow color, but I want to choose other colors instead.

Thanks about the keyboard shortcut tip.

Conditional formatting is rather useful in some cases. But the color coding that I do usually requires me to interpret the text, which can't be done automatically. For example: marking the premises of an argument.

Yes, if you're talking about using a single click for any color, it's not possible. You need to 1- click to see the dropdown, 2- click a second time to select the color.

Conditional formatting can be set to work depending on strings, but obviously not complex string interpretation.
