Using 108a.

I need to enter the same information in a field across many items. In this case, the field is a drop down. In the past I would highlight the rows and in the properties pane, select the choice from the dropdown list. The fields would then be populated by my choice.

This does not work for me anymore. Only one field is populated (the last one selected).

Originally I thought it was because I was attempting to do this in the search grid, but no. It does this in all grids in which the items appear. The fields have to be filled individually.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Jon,

It seems to be working here. I selected several items, then changed the field value in the properties pane, and all items were changed at once.
What kind of drop down is it? (In terms of configuration.) It might be happening in a specific case.

What happens when you specifically select the field/column (not the full row) for a few items, and then paste the/a value?

Hi Armando:

Fixed list. When I got home, I tried this with 107 and it works as expected.

The same results.

I am not sure that this is limited to drop down lists. I have not tesed it with other field types.

Hi Jon,
Strange. I'll try it with a fixed list later.
I should add that the behaviour you described (i.e. only one item gets changed when several are selected and modified through the properties pane) has happened a few times in the past, but it seemed like an rare odd interface bug. Re-selecting items, and performing the change again worked. So I never really bothered looking closer into the problem.

 Hi Armando:

Yes, I have experienced this too in the past. As you describe, re-selecting the items and assigning the fields in the property pane worked. It was so rare and not reproduceable that I thought it was my error. In the current case it happens all the time.

 Hi Pierre:

Welcome back.

As Armando also reported, this has happened from time to time but it was so infrequent and without being able to replicate, I thought it was me. I think I may have come closer to figuring this out.

Earlier versions would allow me to select items and mass populate the fields by completing one and then either clicking out of the property pane or in another field. That action would (almost 100% of the time) populate the items' fields. But now it reliably does not. I have compacted and repaired my database to no avail. However, I have discovered that if I hit Enter after making the selection for the dropdown, the fields are populated. This seems like an additional step, but at least now I can make changes to several fields in my selected items.

Understood.
It works here, that's why I wanted to know the exact field type / editor to try to reproduce it...

It's a fixed list dropdown. Is that what you need to know?

Hi Jon,

That I knew, as it was written before in this thread. I just cannot reproduce it, so if you want this fixed, I'll need more help. Can you reproduce it in a sample IQBase ?

Would you like me to send you the database with the usual caveats?

That would be the fastest way to see the cause and hopefully resolve it !

I am very happy to report that the issue appears to be resolved.

Something strange related to this forum. I replied to you last night. I went through the verification process and saw my post. It is not there this morning. This has happened to me before and I thought it was my error, so I am very careful to confirm my actions when posting, and to check that the post is actually there.

In my missing post, I explained that I was not yet using 109 pre 4 because the settings (toolbars and menu) did not transfer over. This happens between versions from time to time, but it is frustrating to rebuild my customizations. I know how to do it because it does work, but there are times when it does not.

As always, thank you Pierre.
