Just something that I will let percolate in your mind (I haven't thought thru the potential ramifications yet myself).

Currently, if I have multiple Document Panes open with none of them LOCKED to a particular Item, IQ will cycle thru each to display subsequent Documents. To get the effect of having all Documents show up in a particular Pane, I have to LOCK each of the other Document Panes to a specific Item. Workable with 2 Documents Panes but cumbersome with more than that.

A short-term compromise would be the ability to designate a single Document Pane as the DEFAULT VIEWER for a period of time. This would just require an additional button on the Standard Toolbar and simply short-circuit the cycling process.

After thinking this thru a little more, I'm beginning to feel that the BEST solution here is the ability to DESIGNATE a particular Document Pane as the DEFAULT Document Pane.

If you have more than 1 UNLOCKED Document Pane, the problem really is "How do I force a particular Document to display in a particular Pane?". If I could just TOGGLE a Toolbar Icon and know that the Document associated with the NEXT Item I select (from any Grid) would ALWAYS show up there, problem SOLVED.

IQ already has to run through an evaluation process to decide where to display Documents next; the DEFAULT State would just short-circuit that. More challenging would be enforcing that only 1 Pane has the DEFAULT designation at a time, but IQ must already maintain a list of Document Panes and their various STATES.

An Icon similar to the existing [Lock-to-Item] added to the LEFT (hint, hint) of the Standard / BASIC (hint, hint) Toolbar would do the trick.
