I think this is a bug.

 

Start with an item containing a superscript:

Split the section containing the superscript:

 

 

Now refresh the grid to try to get the superscript to display correctly.  The split item disappears altogether:

 

 

Tried this a few times with the same result.

 

Edit: scratch the last part.  The items weren't disappearing but were being sorted to the top of the grid by the refresh for some reason.
