This proves to be a very challenging task. I'm trying to copy several items (with hierarchies, one or two fields with inheritance on, etc.) from one database to another (need to share some stuff with a co-worker)  and it just freezes the application -- waited for half an hour, and nothing happens.. (Note that both databases are identical in terms of fields configuration : basically the same databases, minus the items and a few grids).

It works when I'm copying only a few nested items, but as soon as there are more than just a few (like, say, 30)....  finito.

some stuff gets copied, but only partially (ie : some item field content will be missing, some items will be completely missing, etc.)

I haven't done extensive testing, but I'd like to know if it's a common problem ?

Since copying/pasting (the xml way) is the only way to transfer items between db at the moment, it would be good if it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for reporting this issue.

In the meantime, you could :
  • copy the database and remove the items you don't want or
  • copy fewer items at a time

Yes this is my only possibility at the moment. It was quite complicated to achieve and...  I wasn't successful. But I'll try again later tonight.

Nope. I tried again, using filters to isolate items, but... I end up with only 3 items, interestingly...
