I capture links by:

1) Select icon in Firefox address box
2) Left-click drag to InfoQube window

This stopped working yesterday.  When I drag the link, instead of getting a red line indicator in the target grid, I get a "no" symbol (circle with crossbar).

I hadn't made any changes to InfoQube or Firefox when the problem appeared.  The InfoQube addon is active in Firefox.

Just upgraded 9.113f to 114b and the problem is still there.

OK, didn't realize a function could get disabled without doing an update.  It was working two days ago and suddenly stopped.

Yes, I always log in as administrator because various program operations require that.  When I have program problems, tech support often say to make sure you're logged in as administrator.

Guess I'll have to rethink that since I need drag-and-drop links to work.

Hi Wayne,

Do you mean to say that drag drop used to work in Administrator mode ?
Or you just changed to run in Administrator mode ?

OK, I think I know what happened.  Been having problems with my Fujitsu scanner and I let tech support access my computer.  He probably changed the Windows log in to administrator because he mentioned the need to run installation in Administrator mode.  I just assumed it's always been set to that but probably not.

Good to know what's happening.  Thanks.

Still, that doesn't fully explains it... Even with an Administrator login (which I use), Windows runs in standard user unless you manually elevate
So if you right-click on the file > properties > compatibility, does it say "run this program as an administrator" ?

Pierre,

I thought you were saying I needed to change Windows log-in to Administrator status.  Yeah, that created all kinds of problems, so I changed back to Administrator log in.

When I checked InfoQube.exe properties, "Run as Administrator" was unchecked.

I checked "Run as administrator, and re-launched InfoQube but drag and drop still doesn't work.

Also launched by right-click>Run as administrator.

Nothing works. [edit: also rebooted the computer]

Hi Wayne

Please read carefully Settings for best IQ experience... you got this reversed !
(you should NOT be in administrator mode if you want drag-drop to work)

Yeah, I reversed it that last time but doesn't matter because I've tried it both ways multiple times: doesn't work whether it's in Administrator mode or not.

1) Windows log in as Administrator
2) Infoqube.exe>properties>compatibility>run as administrator [unchecked]
3) Drag and drop doesn't work

Guess I'll just have to go back to manual copy/paste.  Was nice having automatic URL and article title.

As I said, worked for months.  Suddenly stopped though I made no changes.

I take back what I said.  I believe I WAS in administrator mode because once I changed permissions to "Standard" I started getting error messages from other programs that require adminstrator mode.

So, InfoQube links are back to working but now other programs won't run.  Will have to figure that out.

Still don't quite get it... well, I'm no expert

Copy / paste files works just as well as drag-drop. I've also read while researching this issue that if you use another file explorer program, you can run it in Admin mode and drag drop will work
Basically, the drag source must be at the same security level (or higher) than the target

Pierre,

I think I'll chalk this one up to mysterious, unknown forces.  It's spontaneously started working again
even though I've made no changes the past several hours, and the things I tried earlier in the day didn't work (eg rebooting).

Don't know why it quit; don't know why it started again.

Thanks for responding and thanks for the info on Administrator log-in's.  That'll be useful for me..

Good news...

Perhaps this can help you understand

Basically, perhaps you used the "Super-administrator" account, a special account, disabled by default in Windows 10 (but perhaps not in earlier version) which is different from a "regular" administrator account
If I understand correctly, there are 3 account types:
  1. Standard User accounts: Cannot install programs / make changes / run programs as an Administrator. To do this, you'll be prompted to enter the credentials of any administrator account (item 2 below)
  2. Administrator accounts: Can install programs / make changes / run programs as an Administrator, but in all cases, a UAC prompt is always shown
  3. Super-administrator account: Same as item 2 above, but UAC prompts are NOT shown (Windows XP style admin account)
HTH !
