Thanks for trying something new in that respect. It was probably me who complained about the current MO, but the problem only came from using 'Highlight focused cell' option disabled.

 

For me it would be perfect if I could use part of the grid's horizontal extent for drag and another part for multi-select. E.g. use drag inside the header column (or drag in the right half of the grid) for multi-select and drag in the item text (or the left half of the grid) for move. But of course, that may seem complicated for new users. The popular file manager Total Commander does something similar: It uses drag on the icon of a file in the file list (displayed at the left edge) for move and drag elsewhere to multi-select, Ecco also used drag on bullets to move, elsewhere to select.
