If I have TLI ("inbox item 2") shown in two Grids, the Properties Pane correctly shows this:
However, the subitem (Sub Item 1a) is only shown for one of the Grids (the AddressBook where it is under the Main Parent) :
Is this by design? Can it be improved so that it shows both Grids?
BTW, why is it specifying AddressBook? Sometimes the Main Parent is in the Inbox, but it may still show AddressBook....
Like this (I recreated "Sub Item 1a" to have the Main Parent in the Inbox)):
How do I ?

Let's discuss it at the next Coffee shop as I don't follow your argument.
p.s. Your screen shots are great, but since the source is not shown as a grid column, it is difficult to follow
I wonder if this is some…
I wonder if this is some kind of strange bug?
I added the columns for Inbox and AddressBook in respective Grid. Then suddenly the Properties Pane correctly showed that "Sub Item 1a" was in both Grids:
If I now remove the columns, the Properties Pane still correctly shows that the item is in both Grids...
After reading through this…
After reading through this post a few times, I understand it now. The issue is with the information displayed in the Properties Pane under "Shown in * grids". I can confirm that there is an issue where the information displayed under "Shown in * grids" doesn't get updated when one might expect it to. When I encounter this issue, I simply click on another grid, then click back on the original grid, and then the information gets updated. (Whereas executing "Refresh All Grids" doesn't trigger an update.)
Sorry that I didn't explain…
Sorry that I didn't explain it better, but you are right. It is the info in the properties pane, "Shown in x grids", that is not correct.
I created a new item and got the same issue (with the source columns there).
However, switching between Grids doesn't fix it for me.
Okay, my mistake: The…
Okay, my mistake: The procedure that actually works for me is to first execute "Refresh All Grids" (which I have as a custom button in my toolbar) and then to switch between grids. Both steps appear to be necessary.
(When I was testing last night I neglected to notice that the refresh was an essential step.)
The items shown in a grid is…
The items shown in a grid is saved when saving that grid (for performance reasons)
The Properties pane is updated when switching item. So basically, if you add / remove items in grids, you need to both (1) save the grids and (2) update the Properties pane
p.s. This information (which grid shows an item) is not considered essential, so updating is low priority
HTH !
Is there anyway to automate…
Is there anyway to automate this with one click to update....? I will be using this frequently:
Let's say that I have a ToDo item that I created in the ToDo Grid or elsewhere; "Call ABC". I then copy this item as a subitem of "ABC" in the AddressBook.
Now, when I am in my ToDo list and it is time to "Call ABC", I click on the AddressBook Link in the Properties Pane to bring me to "ABC" in the AddressBook to get phone number and other info.
I will try the "refresh all grids" suggestion. Where is this command?
I will try the "refresh all…
As per Pierre's explanation about saving grids, there may be other ways to achieve this, but on my system, "Refresh All Grids" can be done with shift+F5 or else by creating a custom button. Just go the the list of all commands, which is sorted alphabetically.
(And as per my previous post, it's still necessary to switch grids after refreshing.)
Just go the the list of all…
I cannot find this command. What category is it under? (Also, the commands are not sorted alphabetically for me).
In any case, Shift-F5 works. However, after switching Grids, the Properties Pane is still not properly updated (although the item is now also listed in the Journal Grid) :-(.
under All Commands, commands…
under All Commands, commands are in alphabetical order. Under main menu categories, it is under Grid (should be obvious) and near the end of the list
As I said earlier, Properties pane is updated when the focus item changes. So if it didn't update, it is because both grids are showing the same item
I click on the AddressBook…
But the phone number is already shown in the Properties pane, why go to the Address book ??
and other info. I usually…
I usually want to go to the AddressBook to look at previous conversations when I am calling.
How do others deal with this pretty common situation?
(In Ecco, I manually bring up ABC in the Addressbook. However, IQ has to option to get there faster by simply clicking on the link in the Properties Pane :-))
