I have a column of data that is dollar values, and I want a sum of that column. How do I write a formula to give that sum? And where do I place the formula?

  1. For ad-hoc total, you can select the values and do right-click > Info
  2. If you have some hierarchy, you can set up a column equation for that field (parent=sum children)
  3. If Office web components are installed, you can use a pivot table view
  4. If you have Office installed, you can create an ODC file and view / compute data in Excel

There may be other options, but those are the first that come to mind
