David_H's  "voting" at the end of  How Do I Keep Tabs (Grids) Open? made me think that a "poll"/thread to find out which "older" features/bugs users want most to be added or "cleared out" would help to get these out the way in a "prioritized" fashion...?

1- Users could review the mantis list and old feature/bug posts and think about what annoys them / slows them down the most in their everyday IQ usage,

2- Then list 10 (is that the right number ?) features OR bugs already discussed*, ordered by priority, "1" being the highest priority. If required, a brief justification could follow each item.

*New stuff, I believe, should be discussed separately, as it has always been. This thread would be for all past requests, not new ones.

What do you think... Pierre, what are your thoughts ? Could that be fun in any way, or would that be useless and... irritating ?

  1. Auto refresh. It is a pain to have to either manually refresh, close and re-open a grid, or re-start the program to see the changes I have made. This creates doubt in the program. I find that I waste entirely too much time double-checking my work.
  2. There are settings that do not stick. Workspaces don't stiick either. Again, this creates extra work whenever IQ is started. Even more aggravating is when you HAVE to re-start IQ as in #1.
There are several other issues, but these arre theb two at the top of my list.

I like the concept.  I look at it as giving help to prioritize the best thing to work on, when he has to take a break from the #1 priority (calendar).  There are many things that have been mentioned, that would be good for selling the product.

(On the other hand, it's nice to be totally surprised by a change, such as the "add new item" improvements recently!)

I looked in-depth at  Mantis, and by filtering [fixed in] to none, there are 300 items showing.  (No  wonder I see the statement "it's somewhere in Mantis" often in this forum!)

I'd recommend having everyone take the time to reference the Mantis number of the numbers on their list.

Has anyone kept track of what's marked as bug in the forum, that's not in Mantis?  Not that I'm volunteering for this, but it would be nice to have everything in mantis,,,,

I too like the idea - provided that we don't use the results as a prison straitjacket for Pierre, who has ultimately to judge himself where his priorities lie. Specifically: when marketing a product, the priority is not (unfortunately) existing users, but attracting new ones (unless there's a significant ongoing revenue stream from the existing ones - Pierre, another argument for IQ eventually moving in wholeor in part to the Cloud?).

I note that Drupal (the software used to build this forum) is a bit weak on questionnaires and surveys, but is getting there - see drupal.org/node/394284

I would certainly be willing to prioritise my hopes for IQ; but then, like I said, I'm a current user so perhaps I ought not to be listened to too attentively !

exactly.

its use should be to show the users main "irritants" or priorities and, maybe, from there Pierre could fit that into his developer plan.

> when marketing a product, the priority is not (unfortunately) existing users, but attracting new ones

True. But it's also about keeping, as much as possible, the existing one. Unless there are much better opportunities elsewhere (e.g. : what happened with Evernote) ...

Anyhow...  Without going for a poll or a survey (which is kind of restrictive since it means that we need to already offer choices) we could just proceed as I suggested (unless, of course, somebody has a better suggestion), and then , it shouldn't be too hard to compile the data after a few weeks and see what emerges as priorities.

What do you think of the procedure described in my first post ? I think that reviewing Mantis stuff, and bug/suggestions from this forum would be a good starting point...

Armando, Excellent suggestion but, IMO, too much stuff.

Top ten - not.
Top 3 - yes
suggestions or new feature, poster's choice (equally requires Pierre's attention - or not as he sees fit)

After the consensus top 3 are addressed, we can try for the next top 3

when something is or becomes important to me and it's in mantis already, I add what I suppose you could call a beggíng note to it in Mantis (although maybe I'm demanding sometimes )

That way I know it's brought up the list (if sorted by date anyway) and that Pierre sees it again - but of course he may not like this method!

(edit - I'll think about a top three for here)

I thought about that a bit an find that 3 is too little to be able to see recurring tendencies. I'm sure everybody can find 10 features/bugs (max). But if one wants to write only 3... fine. Let's put that min. up to the user.

Well, of course, everybody can do that. But this is not the same as the idea here is to get a feel of what features users want the most, as an average.

Anyhow, let's start a new thread for that, and I'll copy Jon's post to the other thread.
