I know we have talked about this before, but is there a reason we still don't have a Duplicate Grid option under Manage Grids? It sure would be really useful. You could use grid variations to do a lot of things, especially combined with multiple tabs.

Thanks for reminding me of this much delayed issue.

Version v0.9.25W4 now supports duplicating grids:

View >> Grids >> New Grid
Options >> Copy and existing grid
Select from the list of grids

It would be nice if it were eventually incorporated into the "Manage Grids" pane

Very cool! Thanks for adding this, I can tell its going to be really useful.

I've updated the subject line to ADDED 0.9.25W4. And also updated the docs in a few places (see below). I figure the least we can do when you make the changes we ask for is update the docs :).

That said, there is one issue have found and I have a couple suggestions.

The issue is that as I change the "Grid Name" field it seems to change the text in the "Create a duplicate of the following" field.

I would agree with Tom creating duplicates should be easier and step from the grid you are duplicating. So I would:

- Add "Duplicate Grid" menu item to the -- link to nonexistent node ID 809 --

- Add "Duplicate" button to 6. Manage Grids Dialog

- Each of these would open the "Create grid" dialog with the "Duplicate this grid" field already selecting the grid and the "Grid Name " field with something like "Inbox - Duplicate" (adding a number if required like "Inbox - Duplicate2").

While we are tweaking I would suggest changing/adding the following also:

- Add "New" button to 6. Manage Grids Dialog

- Rename "New Window" in 6. Manage Grids Dialog to "New Tab"

I've added the Create Grid Dialog and some other tweaks to the following doc pages with the new functionality. I ran out of time though (need to go to a meeting). So I only did basics, which I think is ok since since I think this has more tweaking coming....

What kind of things did you have in mind when you suggested this especially now that Pierre has implemented this?

I'm assuming duplicate grid is not tied to first grid, i.e. one could make changes in grid 2 & not affect the original....??

I'm not Dave, but I can tell you what I'll do with it...

Lets say you have a "Tasks" grid, and want to create another grid that's almost identical to the "Tasks" grid. Instead of recreating it from scratch, you just duplicate the "Tasks" grid and make a few tiny modifications to it (if you need to). This will be very useful. Even for just creating temporary grids for specific project/taks/whatever and then destroy when you don't need it anymore.

Yes, you'd give it whatever name you'd want.

Tom and Armando are thinking exactly what I was thinking. My biggest example is different sort/filter options. I might have a master grid with a bunch of todos, and then I want a filtered one just showing the high priority. And I want to edit/work with them at the same time. So I would do the following:

Duplicate the "MyMaster" grid as "MyFiltered"

Right click MyFiltered and choose "New Vertical Tab Group" so I can see them side by side

Then as I edit MyMaster I can use Shift-F5 to update all grids to see the result in MyFiltered

PS, Can't wait for W4. This is an amazing point release for me :).
