[Export to Excel & HTML not working properly]

I havent exported anything in a long time.

Tried exporting to Excel and to HTML today without success.
First with a hoisted grid
Second with a simple grid

with Excel I get the message:
[Error exporting to file F:IQBilling.xls]
edit/ for some reasons the backslashes are stripped out of the path when I post here - they were there in the message

With HTML
I get a file with no content (no matter what is selected in the grid)
see also below (worked for Sample grid with the same settings)
I tried selecting columns and selecting everything in the grid (was not an extra large amount of items)
 HTML now working !

I then tried quickly in the Sample database:

Excel file is exported but with only the TLI - 26 selected sub-items were ignored

HTML worked (I didnt mess around with settings - they were exactly the same for both files)

Any ideas? edit/ I tried a repair, and a restart - HTML now working, Excel still broken
Thanks, Tom

Yes, this is how it worked for me too.

I don't think Excel export is supposed to work for selected items. It is in the Grids menu, so I think it works for the entire grid regardless of selection. That export does not include sub items is disturbing. However, as a workaround (groan), you can copy to Excel.

It used to work - like i say, it's been a while since I tried it though.
So we have a confirmed bug report -

I'll add it to mantis when I get a chance

Hi Tom,

Export to Excel works here, but does incorrectly display an error message... Will fix it.

Export to Excel exports items which belongs to the grid... to find out this list :
  • Uncheck context parents
  • Uncheck Hierarchy
  • Uncheck Save Item State
Also, Excel is not able to display hierarchy, so ...

HTH !

BTW: it is the same list of items which would be seen by other apps (Word, Excel) using an ODC connection (Grid >> Create an ODC file )

revisiting excel export, I had the same problems again:
  1. no excel files are exported from any grid in my main file - I get a message to say they are created, but they are not.
  2. Sample file in clean IQ will export TLI's only - IIUC what you are saying above, only TLI's will be exported anyway?

I just find it very confusing either way - export grid should imo either export:
  • what can be visible in the grid when all items expanded,
  • or, an argument could be made for just what is selected
It's not a real problem for me - I copied and pasted (quite successfully) a couple of thousand items into a spreadsheet.
But I believe it is something that's guaranteed to cause lots of future problems with the way it now works...
