I find that I must return to W5 once again. these are the problem I am experiencing, but NOT with W5.

1. One of my grids will absolutely not  open in any reasonable length of time. In W5, the grid will load and open in less than 10 seconds. I thought this grid caused W8 to crash, but after several failed attempt to open this grid, I let it run. About 5 MINUTES later it loaded and opened. Yes, I tried repairing the database to no avail.

This grid contains several items with multiple parents, full hierarchy, and context parents active. W5 does not choke on this grid. W8 does.

2. There are 62 TLIs in a different grid. All but six contain several (more than 5) sub items. In W5, I can fully collapse (CTRL 1) and fully expand (CTRL 9) at will and have the grid correctly displayed. However, in W8 I have this problem. CTRL 9 will expand the grid as expected. If the cursor is in any TLI other than the first and I do CTRL 1, the grid disappears. I have to refresh it to see the collapsed structure.

By the way, W8 is much less responsive in general than W5 and earlier, at least for me.

I'm sorry to hear you're still experiencing problems...

I can't reproduce the Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+9 bug.  And... all my grids seem to load in the same amount of time.  Hmmm... you might be unto something concerning grid opening. I'm checking that out.

Are any of these problems reproducible with an emptied  copy of your DB (i.e. In a copy of your DB: tools>database management> erase all items ) or a sample ?
You could always post an empty copy of your DB here (or send it to Pierre) if something is reproducible.

The CTRL1 and CTRL 9 issue is easily reproduced in all the grids. If I empty the database, there is nothing to expand/collapse, so there is nothing to try. The weird thing is that the grid will collapse and expand correctly if the cursor or highlight is on the first TLI. Otherwise the grid's contents simply vanishes until it is manually refreshed. This does not happen at all with W5 and the same (or other) databases.

Grids are noticeably slower to open in this version. Something has changed.

re Grid opening: True. Fixed in v0.9.25W9

Ctrl+1, Ctrl+9: I'm not able to reproduce it either...

I can send you the file tomorrow. Would you like it?

I've also noticed that the file size of the database is larger with W8 when compared with W5. Both databases are presumably identical except that one has been opened with W8.

re: file size: a compact should fix this. Nothing was changed as far as the database format is concerned

It will be sent in ten minutes.

The issue I noticed with the file size is that a W5 database opened in W8 is larger. This seems to happen even if nothing is done to the file (just opened and closed).

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the file. I was able to reproduce both issues with W8 (using your instructions)
  • The long load time is fixed in my dev version. The 1600+ item grid now loads in < 10 sec a recent PC and <30 sec on my 9 year old PC
  • The Ctrl+1 issue is a refresh problem. Fixed in v0.9.25W9
Thanks again !
