I guess it's a basic question, but I never used it. So, once I tagged items, can I now display them? Would it be in the scratch grid?

ItemsTagged Show the currently tagged items (Item>Tag Item>Add Items to Tagged List) Note that ItemsTagged is a hidden field management dialog, and must be chosen from the dropdown

(from Grid Source EditBox)

i.e put ItemsTagged in the source for Scratch grid (or whatever grid - you could create a grid called ItemsTagged and it will automatically display tagged items)

I must be doing something wrong:

select an item->right-click->select "tag items" from pull down menu->select "add items to tagged list"->click source box->select "ItemsTagged"->hit refresh->NOTHING HAPPENS

There are many ways:

You can display them in any grid with the source set to ItemsTagged. Just make sure that there are no filters active, which may hide these items
You can also create a new grid. If you call it ItemsTagged, it will automatically use that field
In the Properties pane, there is a section Tagged items. Right-click on the section header and select View Tagged items
To view items individually, click on the items in the Tagges items section of the Properties pane

You can also use the new hoisting feature to focus on a bunch of items.

Okay -- I was waiting to try the new prerel20 before going ahead, but now I have installed it, and I did all that I was told (see above), selected taggeditems in a grid, refreshed, and nothing happened -- the grid is empty. Anybody knows what could be wrong?

Update -- I checked the sample file, and it works there. Then it must be something with my file.

Perhaps you have a filter enabled... Check :

Source bar filter box
Alpha Filter
Date Filter

Also check that the grid is not showing hoisted items (if you were able to change the source, this should not be the case)

All filters and hoiting are off.

Tag item doesn't work here either. There must be something wrong happening with the itemstagged field and the menu.

[EDIT : my "itemstagged" grid doesn't show any of the items shown in the Tagged items section of the properties pane. AFAICT, no filters are on.]

The only way I can see these items are by clicking on them individually and display them in the Scratchgrid.

Tagged items section -->right click --> "View tagged items" doesn't work either. It shows an empty grid.

Have you tried ? :

Show the properties pane (F4)
Expand the Item Info section
Expand the Tagged items section
You should see your tagged items
At this point you can either:
1. Click on any item in that section (it is a hyperlink) and the item will be shown in the Scratch grid (is the scratch grid set ?)
2. Right-click on the Tagged items heading and select "View Tagged items". These will be shown in the Scratch grid

FYI, with the new hoisting feature, the use of tagged items is alot less interesting.

True, but it's harder to hoist a few items "coming from"/displayed in different grid. This is where tagging is handy. ~~However, I agree with you, and I'd personally favour expanding the hoisting feature and replacing the tagging thing all together.~~

[EDIT : actually, I see how that wouldn't be possible as hoisting is a per grid thing... And it's very good that it stays like that. So the tagging concept -- as long as the name changes -- probably needs to remain... And so those tagging issues mentioned above are definite issues.]

"View Tagged items" doesn't work either.

I would use tagging for simply marking items as I go through them that I want to review in some near future and I don't want to forget about them, and hoisting, as far as I know, can't replace that.
