I have no idea how that happened, but in the process of importing Evernote items, my Task grid basically got erased (or replaced by another grid)... The task Grid was the first grid in my grid list.

I decided I didn't have the time to reconstruct it with all filters etc., so I when to dropbox and came back to somewhere this morning.

I'm sorry if I don't have much details. I really don,t know how this happened, but... it did.

This happened again. (But I got my Grid back as it was still open when it got deleted in the grid management window... For some mysterious reason)

I was not able to reproduce that all the time - maybe because I'm missing a step somewhere.

However, what I can reproduce is that the Evernote (newly created) grids are not effectively deleted after being... deleted.

(note : I added a series of steps to be tried without an Evernote DB)

Steps :

1- Import first set of Evernote items.

2- a new grid is automatically created

3- I didn't want that new grid so : I opened the grid management window, and deleted it. Then : Save and Save grid order.

4- I then imported a second DB of Evernote items

5- a new grid is automatically created etc.

6- I opened the grid management dialog to delete that 2nd grid... My "Task" grid was gone, and the both Evernote grids (1st and 2nd) were still there at the top. The old one and the new one...

Maybe the same steps could be tried just by creating new grids and deleting them (without having to import Evernote stuff, etc.).

But I haven't got the time to carefully experiment.

Steps would be :

3- open the grid management window, and delete the new grid.

4- Save, and then save grid order. close dialog.

5- Open Grid management dialog

6- create 2nd grid, save and close dialog.

7- open the grid management window, and delete the 2nd grid.

8- Save, and then save grid order. close dialog.

10 open the grid management dialog... both new grids are still there at the top of the list.

to delete the reappearing grids I have to go back and delete them again.

2 times (one for each)

(my guess is that the save operation only saves the last operation, not all operations made in one working session.

I also have to re-save the grid order as the first grid goes to the bottom even if i don't touch it.

Ok. The problem isn't reproduceable without importing Data (from EverNote, in this case).

I can reproduce the problem everytime I do the first steps I outlined (not the the hypothetical ones I added to try without an Data Import).

(The DB I previously attached for the accents problem should do for the testing. Actually, no need to import 2 DB. Just one, and try to delete it. You.ll see)

Thanks for the crystal clear instructions. I believe this is fixed in 0.9.25pre-rel24.

Thanks for fixing that. Seems to be fixed.

I wasn't able to have a grid disappear.

However, a few weird bugs remain unfixed (found them in my bug list which I'm slowly going through -- I thought they were irrelevant, but they still are, apparently). Will create another thread for these.

The 3 "manage grids" related problems were posted in mantis (933, 934, 935) -- can't find the related forum issues. Sorry...

This issue now has its specific mantis issue : 944 (Can't easily erase grids created during the EverNote data import process.)

(this doesn't replace the other grid related issues, of course :

933 (Manage Grid "show overview", "histogram" etc. settings : override the gantt buttons settings in the toolbar)

934 (Manage grid : not possible to edit Newly created grid if the focus is moved to another grid (and back again))

935 (Manage grid and field management : should function in more similar ways.) )

I had a grid just disappear today in my main database. I was doing some kind of tweaking in the manage grids, but I wasn't paying attention to exactly what I did (but I will now).

So apparently it is not just limited to an import. Has anyone else noticed this, on other than an import?

Yes, I did. And more than once. The last time was actually while working on the IQMinutes DB. One of the grids disappeared and I had to recreate it, with all the columns, settings, gantt, fonts, etc. Very annoying...

I actually avoid using the grid management dialog now as I'm not sure why grids get deleted. I suspect that it could have something to do with having more than one DB opened at the same time. Was it your case ?

This one is fairly serious in my opinion--if I have many grids, I might not even realize til much later that grids have vanished.

[edit] I noticed a couple of more things today: 1) with autoclose unchecked, and the manage grids open, if I switch to another database, the mng grids from the closed file stays open,

2) two different times, I've had a grid appear in the manage grids list, that was from another database. They have been at the top of the list each time.

1- Yes it IS serious. It happened 2 times that I noticed that grid disappeared 1 or 2 weeks after the fact... Ouch. What a loss of time finding the right backup, and then copying the grid properties bit by bit, etc.

2- The 2nd problem you mentioned also happened to me a few times (and this was at least a year ago) -- fortunately, not recently. Pierre is aware of it.

Hopefully the fact that these are happening to you too will accelerate the bug fixing process. ;)

Until these will be fixed I'll be afraid to use the grid management dialog !
