1. I tried it with 2 versions  0.9.25Pre-Rel25 &  0.9.25C
When I change the level of the item (it's subitems had assigned rule to have the same content automatically), the content of that cell disappears. Never happened before in the versions I used to use.

Hi Jay,
Is the content transferred my inheritance ? What is the rule like ?

Yes the problems is with inheritance. When I move the item left or right the fields inherit new values (or lose it). It used to be the only the original children would inherite form their parent, and when parent is moved nothing happnels to the parent, but now it does -- a dissaster?

The rule:
Under "inheritance":
"value-->subitem" is checked
"can delete on item move" is not checked.
Take care,
Jay

I'm not sure what's happening. Normally, the field should inherit the value and keep it whatever happens, according to your settings ?
Isn't this what's happening ? I can't recreate the problem here.
1- Make sure that you're really looking at the right field.
2- Also, note that I just discovered a serious bug with the properties pane : when you create an item, it displays the content of the previous one. Maybe is that the problem ? Go back and forth between items (to make the properties pane refresh properly and see if the value is there as it should)

Sorry can't fix it. It's a serious problem for me. Perhaps I could send the file?

What it does is that when you change the level of the item and the inheritance is on it automatically inherits the value of its new parent (and if the new parent doesn't have a value than it will clear). It happens regardless if the item is moved up or down in regard to the hierarchy. If I didn't know that it didn't use to be like that I would think maybe this is the way it works.
AS I said it's a big problem -- for now the only solution for me to avoid losing all those values is to just turn off the inheritance for those fields and enter everything manually.

Take care,
Jay

Are you sure the new parent cell is really blank ? Because when I try it here, it works fine. Perhaps it contains a space ....

Yes it is, but that's not even the point -- the point is that when I move the item (with its children) up or doan in hierarchy (physically left or right) the original values in this parent (amd ots children) particular field changes, taking inheritance of a new parent. As I said i might thing this is the way it should be hadn't I done it many times before in earlier versions (I haven't done it in a while, or I just at first didn't really noticed, so I can't tell when exactly it happened). But it made sense the way it was. I could move my parent with its children to another place in the grid (under another parent) without losing all the data.
Thanks

Take care,
Jay

What field is involved here ? A yes/No field ?
You could just say :
1- the type
2- the settings.

This way we can try it. I tried with Y/N fields and everything's fine. So it might be a problem with another type.

In this particular gird I have checked inheritance for yes/no field which is the grid source field, I remember that I did it to avoid problems I used to have with items not showing when they didn't belong to the grid. But the field in question is text field.
Take care,
Jay

BTW what did you mean by
1. The type
2 The setting

In v0.9.25E, a dialog is now shown, allowing you to decide what to do in such cases

HTH !

Hi Pierre,

If you're currently working on inheritance related stuff, it would be great if you checked that the previously reported bugs (in mantis) are now fixed. The "Delete when Item move" was problematic.

Regarding the dialog above :
I suggest that maybe there could eventually be an option to check : "Remember my choice from now on, and don't show this dialog again. To change it, go into field management dialog ". The reason ? People moving a lot of stuff all the time might get annoyed after a while. That, said, that annoyance is much better than being surprised by "unpredictable" behavior.

I tried to follow the description in both issues, and the behaviour now appears correct.

I'll add the option to not ask in a future release

I'm not sure i understand , but once I have a minute (or rather like 2 hours) I'll check that version. I;m just afraid to use new versions

And to sum up -- what do you advice me to do? Please try to condescend to my level.

Thanks
Take care,
Jay

Hi Jay,
I advise you to download the newest version. With the new inheritance dialog you'll be able to choose whether your text field inherits the new parent's value or keep the old one.

e.g. :
If you have a child that inherited some text like "blablabla", and now you move it under a parent where this particular text field is empty or has something else in it, you'll be able to choose if it keeps the old inheritance or take the new parent's one. That's all.

As for "types" in my previous post, I meant : text, date, number...

Sorry if I sound complicated... Hopefully this explanation is clearer

Thanks Armando,
You mean the newest? Is it safe?  Just one question -- would there be an option to chose for once what i need so I don't have to deal with the dialogue box everytime?
Thanks again.

Jay

Like Pierre said, this will only happen in a future release... He needed to release this one ASAP to take care of a few issues with the properties pane, etc. I'm currently using it and it seems to work well. Maybe you could try it. You can always revert to the previous one if you don't like it.
