I thought I understood the different uses of MHT vs HTML from reading the info available thru the community site. But then I read something about MHT within HTML so now I'm totally thrown.

Can someone direct me to some real simple explanation of these two formats,
their usage, how they work together, etc.

Thanks.

Humm... perhaps an MHT document inside an iframe of an html pane, but where have you read this?

I wish I could remember, Pierre.  This is a perfect example why I rely so much on IQ.  I didn't use it on this occasion & this is the result.

This is probably what you saw: (courtesy of mht "html pane" in the forum search)

Re: html pane hyperlinking

ctrl+click would be good. I personally would prefer that option -- browse mode is less intuitive, IMO, when you want to quickly follow a link in a page you're editing.

(It should probably be noted that MHT "documents" viewed in the HTML pane have links that are always directly clickable... since there's not "edit" mode)

...

Here's how I think of it and use it.

MHT: I use it when either I have pictures as part of a document I want to retain, or a large amount a text, that I want to be able to edit in Word.
(Web captures I only save a MHT if they have pictures I want to save;I generally need just the text so I save HTML)

The MHT document will show up in the HTML pane, and have a title at the top like:
HTML (ID=4958) C:\IQ\Users\Keith\kab002.sndb.Files\ItemID4958.MHT

It's a little confusing because the all the toolbars show in the HTML area, even though only the "edit with word" or "edit with blocknote" is applicable.

This file you see in the HTML pane is only editable within Word or Blocknote, by clicking the "edit with Word", or the "edit with Blocknote" icon.

HTML: I'm using it more and more pretty much everything else. (Small to moderate size text).

At a glance at the top of the HTML pane, the title will look like:
HTML (ID=6508) see email from work, I think they extended it, but will have to call to get reset         (it shows the first line of the HTML text)

The text is editable/formattable/zoomable/ "tableable" etc.with the various HTML pane toolbars.

By the way, note that if an item has neither HTML text nor an MHT file associated with it, the title looks like:
HTML (ID=5314) (empty)
