I'm wondering if we should look at moving from Mantis and UserVoice to something that does both.

Right now issue reporting and tracking is a bit of a mixed bag. Most updates list forum threads rather than issues and most folks dont bother with Mantis. Mantis also doesn't support voting and its bug issue seems to indicate it will not anytime soon. Its also behind in functionality in other ways from newer issue tracking sites.

And uservoice is only used by some, and not lined up with Mantis. It also doesn't give any of the release management that a development team needs.

Youtrack (and Jira) is way better. It's not free though, but it does import from Mantis.

Google Code is another option, not sure about importing from Mantis though.

Or maybe we can cross our fingers that Mantis will someday actually add voting (http://www.mantisbt.org/bugs/view.php?id=668)? It still won't hold a candle to you track though....

I know this was asked in the forum not so long ago & Pierre didnt seem too bothered about the voting aspect of things - nor with where things were added so long as they either [1] got fixed, or [2] were not forgotten (Mantis).

(Sorry, I dont have time to search for that thread right now...)

I'm following up on a comment I made in the announcement 0.9.26Pre-Rel4 announcement thread.

It seems with we in danger of falling into squeaky wheel mode. Like Tom and Al I have some features that I really want to see (and personally do not care about calendaring), but I don't think we want to get into the pattern of each of us repeating them each release (especially in the release announcement). I've continued a thread on that here Do we need to reconcile/cleanup issue tracking and voting to keep it out of the announcement thread.

We have existing threads on each of these issues, and we have uservoice, and we have Mantis, but it isn't clear how you are using them to prioritize issues. And it seems with each release you do grab something from the forum posts, so I think we are feeling the best way to get features is to mention them repeatedly.

In the end that model is just going to create noise I think, so perhaps we need something different? Some way that the active users can indicate there top issues that they feel you will give close attention to (you of course can't promise to do all of them)? I know we have the "priority features" forum, but since everyone can post there as much as they want I think maybe it doesn't really work either. So maybe a thread where we each get to talk about one feature we really want?
