The 'loss' of embedded files has definitely been a problem for me because I didn't realize it until after the fact. This becomes most important -- if for instance -- one is using drop box. I guess one has to know enough to save entire IQ folders. In my case, I have the program on drive C:\, the data on E:\ w a backup on F:\ + drop box so you can see it becomes a bit unwieldy.
You could ask why I do it this way. The answer is:
c:\ has all programs
d:\has mirror
e:\has all data
f:\= 1T drive where I back everything up
back to InfoQube. As I understand it:
htm files are saved within the dB
mht files can be saved within the dB or not in options
but I don't know enough to make a suggestion of how one thing is to follow the other.
What I'd like to ask here is if someone could tell me where what is stored. For example:
shortcut keys
tabs, options, menu setups etc
and any other files connected w operating IQ without a hitch
and any suggestions anyone has for a better / safer organization for IQ + related files

This has happened to me many times because I moved stuff around, deleted the wrong files, etc. That's what happened w the IMPORTANT item (I referenced above) that went missing. It was a long piece I wrote for future use & now that I want to review / update it, it's no where to be found. Not IQ's fault; mine, based on ignorance but could happen to other users unless I / we / they know what files go where, etc.

Yes, it happened because of an IQ bug, a while ago, but not because I moved files around -- I generally don't do that and I don't link many external files to IQ (like *.DOC, *.PDF, etc.)

Like I said in another post, it's possible to retrieve your MHT file if you have system backups, etc.
And even if you don't : Normally, IQ's MHT files are not deleted, even when one deletes an item (this is actually problematic I find, but I won't discuss that now...). So unless you went and deleted it yourself, manually, it should still be there.
Other ones that IE can view (Word, Excel, PDF, etc)

If Tools>>Options>>This file>>Data storage>>Save copy of HTML/MHT in the database is checked a copy of the file is also in the database. This is useful if you want to move with you only the IQBase and not the associated .files folder. This feature is most likely on a phasing out process
HTM files are generated manually (i.e. html>>File>>Save As) or as part of the IQ Clipper (FF, IE) when selecting Copy URL content

Lastly, as for using Dropbox, the simplest and most complete backup solution is to simply put the IQBase and its associated .files folder in your Dropbox folder. That way, every change is uploaded and you have full revision history (and delete protection) that Drobox offers. That's what I do.
Yes, that's what I meant... So basically it's always possible to search content without the actual files.

What one could do, is also :
1- to use DropBox to sync the IQ backups (sent the DropBox folder) so that IQ is backed up consistently, each time a nnew backup overwrites the old one (otherwise IQ needs to be closed for dropbox to make a backup). This was Pierre's idea, which I implemented. I prefer it to the solution mentioned above.
2- SugaSync could be used to backup individual files from the YourIQBase.files folder (since Sugar sync is not limited to one folder only...)
