InfoQube constant using 5% CPU, even when in background (also lots of Context Switches and GDI)

Submitted by reesd on 2012/03/20 09:40
InfoQube is constantly using 5+% CPU on my machine, even when in the background.  It also has the most Context Switches on my machine. I really don't see why it should be grinding away when its in the background.

And, while the GDI usage has gotten better its still the biggest GDI user after Firefox.

Because of its high resource usage I've gotten in the habit now of quitting InfoQube when I am not actively using it, which means I'm not really using it that much anymore :(. Instead I am throwing stuff in text and word documents and doing outlines in Bonsai instead. I had planned to move a lot of that to IQ, but I can't until I can leave InfoQube running all the time.

And GDI is discussed in Default Grids to display on start-up.

Progress report

Hi Pierre:

Can you please give us an update on the next version? Over a week ago, you said it was coming soon. Five days ago you said that it would be out by the end of the day. If it still needs work, fine, but can we know what's happening?

Thank you.

Ease of use - seamless importing - no admin rights

Hi folks,
I am experimenting with IQ and have some general impressions. I am an Engineer by education so I like playing around with software. However, I am a Program Manager by trade and I need a PIM that "stays out of the way" and makes it easy to manage my data. I would prefer not to have to go through several steps to get non-text data into IQ. I'd like to drag and drop an EXCEL file, not convert it to CSV and the go through a lengthly import process. Same is true with Outlook email. I'd like to drag and drop an email into IQ and have it automatically parse the to/from/cc/subject/body data. Same thing for Word. Convert the body to HTML and parse the author/date created/date saved/etc data for me.
I know this sounds critical but I'm to the point where I need PIM software to be easy to use. I can't afford the time to convert from one format to another.

Auto search

I have reported this before. I am absolutely certain that turning auto search off does not necessarily stick. This happens from time to time, but it is erratic and I cannot detect steps to replicate it. The only commonality is that it occurs when IQ is started. I have never experienced this while IQ is running.

But the problem is there.

Really, it is.

Really.

Odd InfoQube behaviors

Submitted by woodworker on 2012/03/08 16:04
  1. odd cursor behavior in html window. I do a lot of cut and paste. The program seems to automatically start a new line after I paste text... sometimes I have to backspace and then hit enter, because even though the cursor is on a new line, the text I am pasting appears at the end of the text on the line above. This somehow causes a re-formatting of part of the preceeding text.
  2. under items, sometimes when I create a new subitem it automatically creates a copy of the subitem, except as a master item. When I go to delete the copy item, the original also disappears. I have no idea what I am doing, if anything, to cause this to happen, but it is darned inconvenient.
  3. this has to do with the forum. After a day, or days, my password stops working. I have to report that "I can't remember my password" in order to obtain a link so that I may re-enter the same password.
Best Regards,

Importing of non-text files and storing files within the database

Submitted by martym on 2012/03/08 14:23
Hi folks,

New to IQ but long time URP user. I really like the grid concept (kind of like ZOOT programmable folders) but I really miss not being able to store actual files within the database. In URP, I have 3 years of data (email, PDF, Excel, Powerpoint, Word, web pages) stored in a DB. I only have to back up one file and I'm never impacted by linked files being erased or moved. I've survived 4 computers and never lost any data.

I know that linking to files is advertised as a feature. Any chance that you could also add storing the actual files within IQ? The information I manage is much more than text and I can't depend on a file link to remain accurate. I know I could make a copy of every file I wanted to save in the same folder as my IQ database but that is not quite the same as having them nicely compressed within the database.
