How do I change the first column in a grid to something other than the item column?

Comments

Just grab the column you want to be firsth with your mouse, hold the the right mouse button, and slowly drag it to the left.  Make *sure* to drag it in a straight horizonalt line or it will not work.  You will see what I mean if you experiment with it.  Then just release it once you get it to the other side of the item column.  A little red line will appear as you are doing it to let youu know when you can release it.

You may drag any of the grid headings around to change the order. Look for the red arrows as shown. If you have trouble moving "Item", you can instead drag other columns in front of it. (I notice that if the "Item" column is wide, it's really trick to position it).
Note that the # grid isn't draggable (though you can make it "invisible" by dragging the oesn't work this way--it can be "hidden" by reducing it's width to 0).

I couldn't get it to work. It seems I remember something about the first column having to be done differently than arranging the other column positions. For my purposes the # column is fine where it is.

I tried a sample file and I can move a column to the first position, but can't move column to first position in my file, sometime back I did move a column to the first position but not now. I'll keep trying to finese it. I can move other positions around.

The very first column (#) cannot be moved. You can reduce its width to zero though...

Hi Pierre

I have 4 columns
(#)  (Hot)  (Item)  (Today), at one time I was able to move the (Hot) column to the left of the (Item) column, during the beta phase.

I can't move the (Today) to the left of the (Item) column, when I try I get a circle with a line through it as I move it past the (Item) column. I can move the (Hot) back and forth to either side of the (Item) column.

If I open a test file I can move things back and forth at will.

The Grid component was upgraded recently, and the new one is rather picky on how to move columns, and seems to refuse some legitament movements. I'll inform the supplier. Perhaps try to move other columns to achieve the same result...

No that won't work either, when I try to place the (Item) column to the right of the (Today) column I get the 'circle with a line through it' symbol.

using same thread but for last column
-
if I try to move any column to the very right it is not allowed
I have to move it to second-last place and then move the last column to it's left

should this not be possible ?
(been meaning to post that for a long time)

Found "my problem". I had four columns (#) (Hot) (Item) (Today) and I wasn't able to switch columns (Hot) and column (Today). I had the Nb Columns Locked set to 3. I just reset to 1 and made the change. No bug, pilot error.
