I have made several attempts on different machines (with OS from XP through 7) to figure this out. It seems that when I drag a file to any database and tick the option to create a windows shortcut, it does not. By that I mean that I see the hyperlink text in the grid, but no corresponding shortcut is created at the location. The link seems to point to a non-existent shortcut.

Hyperlinks directly to the file work fine.

I'm using version W.

Thanks.

Hi Jon, I presume from what you say that clicking on the link created does not open the file?

In my usual install, links with shortcuts work, I'm not sure where the shortcuts should be saved but can check from the link ... yeah, they're in a folder of the same name as the IQ file (in same location as the IQ file).

I also tried it in a sample database - it worked (other settings were at default) i.e. it made a link that opened the file - but it showed the full path in the link instead of just the filename (which was selected).

Interesting. It does not work on any of my computers. The hyperlink is created as an item but clicking it, double clicking it,, does nothing. On inspection, that is because the shortcut has not been created.

Strange indeed. Any chance you can do a video of it ? Perhaps it is an obvious thing that we can't think of...

OK, I couldn't wait. Here is the video. I hope you can determine what is wrong.

!!!    - I can reproduce it if I use a clean install of W (portable) and a new sample file (my other attempt was with W installed over V)
With a new file, there isnt any "files" folder created at all. And likewise no shortcut created.

But if I use my usual file with this fresh "install", it still works okay - could it be some setting I use that isnt in the default file?

With your file Jon, you also have a "files" folder but it's not being used (again wondering what the difference could be...)

EDIT/ have you tried it with other filetypes? (just remembered you used a .CR2 file in the video). I suspect it still wont work - but just to rule it out.

Thanks for investigating. The folder you see in the video was created by an earlier install. If I create a new file or use an existing file that has no corresponding folder, then no folder and no shortcut are created with W.

Yes, I have tried other file types. It just doesn't work.

Hi Jon,

There was clearly an issue if the folder was not already created. This is fixed in v0.9.25W1.

When the folder exists, I've tried it here, on XP and Win7 and the shortcut were created, so I'm not sure what could be causing this.
