Users, please note that auto-backups are NOT working.

This is now confirmed by Tom below. I am highlighting this because nothing is worse than having an issue and then  realizing your data is not being backed up. Until this is fixed you may want to setup an alternative backup strategy (which is probably a good idea in general).

"Create backup on close" IS working. So you probably want to make sure that is at least turned on.

I have auto-backup set to every 60 minutes, but that seems to have stopped working sometime in the last few weeks. I have a backup for midnight for last night around midnight, but none before that for several weeks til 10/13. And I have no hourly backups.

I think 10/13 was when I installed 0.9.25W1, so maybe a bug was accidentally introduced then?

I've attached snapshots of my settings and the files in my backup folder. You can see I have a backup from midnight, but then none for two weeks. And I have been using IQ consistently.

Is anyone else seeing this? It seems like a pretty serious problem.

I'm using a different backup strategy at the moment -- my DB is pretty big and IQ's autobackup slows down IQ for several seconds usually when I need it the most ! So I'm now using a combination of backup (SyncBack) to my Dropbox folder + a rename using Renamer's batch capabilities (this is because I don't want my backups to have the same name as the original DB for safety purposes). This is quicker and without any hit on performance.

I'll see if I can reproduce this backup problem later. Hopefully Pierre can test it too.

are you able to backup the file when it's open Armando?

I cant remember what setup I used on my last machine - I think I used IQ's straight-forward backup (no datestamps**) & then backed that up in turn

** Trying that now...

I was able to simply manual copy the file while IQ was open. Since its an Access DB it should be able to recover from a copy done during a  transaction. That doesn't mean that IQ's use of that database is written in a way that will handle it (related transactions may not grouped "atomicly" as they  say in the DB world). So I wouldn't depend on it. I'm thinking of setting up my own hourly copy. With one every hour the odds that one of them is usable seems pretty good.

Obviously Pierre fixing this is the best option.

Yes (thanks for the tipp-off)
My backups havent been created since 2011-09-02

Settings are:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Win 7 Pro 64bit ~ Portable IQ  (0.9.25.W2)

EDIT/ "delete timestamped auto-backup files" is a confusing phrase - I remember having explained to me that it leaves one per day - is that correct - seems to be what happened before - when it did work.
Better go setup another backup...

Ok, I am going to make the thread a little more visible so others can know they are not backed either. Hopefully no one has an issue and then gets a nasty surprise when they go looking for their backup.

I was not able to reproduce the issue, but will try again later today.

Can you give the date/time of the file InfoQubeClipper.exe ?

You're using the Portable version ?

InfoQubeClipper.exe's date/time is 9/30/2011 12:00AM.

I am not using the portable version. I install from the EXE each time. Currently on W1.

Thanks!

Thanks, I can see interval backups starting to appear. I have updated the subject from IMPORTANT to FIXED :).
