I've just started to acquaint myself with the program. It started fine the first couple of times--I was able to create files and open and reopen them. But now I can't do either. If I try to open a new file, I get an error message saying, "The file D:\Documents\<filename.SNDB> already exists. Do you want to delete the existing file and replace it with this one?" I've tried this several times with different new file names and I get the same error message each time; just to be clear, no such file name can exist yet, because I haven't created them yet.

For files that I had already created, when I try to open them, there is a yellow warning strip along the bottom of the program that says "1: cmdbar_Execute|1/21/2009 12:24:17 PM|70|Permission denied(1=0)"

I am installing the program from 0.9.24PortablePreRel4.zip. I tried deleting unzipped folder and installing the most current prerelease version and I get the same behaviour.

I am using Windows XP Pro, SP3. Looking forward to finding out what's going on.

  1. The message on file>new is known and can be ignored.
  2. Are you using the portable or installable flavors? If portable, have you unzipped and copied to a folder you have rights to (if using NTFS)?

Hello Pierre.

1. Sorry if I missed that in the documentation.
2. I'm using the portable, yes to NTFS, and yes to full permissions on this computer.

It's very odd, because the program worked just fine for several days. I'm thinking back on any software I might have installed during that time, and there's a game, but I've installed this game before (not particular graphics or memory intensive) and it's never affected any other programs on my computer.

Hi Dennis,

Have you resolved this issue? One thing you can try to determine what the problem is, is to do a system restore to when IQ worked and see what happens. No worry, you can restore back to the current state if desired.

Normally: start>programs>accessories>system tools: system restore

Still unresolved, Pierre. I'm afraid I can't resort to System Restore. I recently cleaned out all my restore points. (Over-zealous housecleaning) I'm currently downloading the setup version of the latest release to see if that happens to wind up making a difference. I'm assuming that the portable version doesn't write to the registry or create files anywhere outside of the folder in which the portable files and folders reside. If that's not the case, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll see what happens with the setup version.

  • Portable: this is correct with one exception. It creates the following file: <docs and settings>\<UserName>\Temp\SQLNotesAll.loc which FireFox uses to link to IQ

Here's the latest, Pierre. It's not good. The setup version yileds the same problem. Then, this morning, I had one of those Homer Simpson moments and realized that I could test the portable version on my thumb drive. Results: Same problem. So I'm totally stumped.
