  1. odd cursor behavior in html window. I do a lot of cut and paste. The program seems to automatically start a new line after I paste text... sometimes I have to backspace and then hit enter, because even though the cursor is on a new line, the text I am pasting appears at the end of the text on the line above. This somehow causes a re-formatting of part of the preceeding text.
  2. under items, sometimes when I create a new subitem it automatically creates a copy of the subitem, except as a master item. When I go to delete the copy item, the original also disappears. I have no idea what I am doing, if anything, to cause this to happen, but it is darned inconvenient.
  3. this has to do with the forum. After a day, or days, my password stops working. I have to report that "I can't remember my password" in order to obtain a link so that I may re-enter the same password.
Best Regards,
Will Highfield

I don't use the HTML pane a lot for copy/paste, but, in any case, I haven't encountered this. It could be a HTML pane component bug.
Keep in mind that when you paste something, it can come with its own HTML formatting which can cause problems depending on the included HMTL code.

A positive  thing to be noted : The html pane component will eventually be replaced with a much more powerful one. "Eventually" means : before or for V1.

my explanation will probably sound like workarounds, but it's the only help I can offer at this point...

To understand why this happens, you need to understand very well how grids work. The best way is to have a look at the help file (F1, starting maybe with 2.06 An overview of IQ's main components: Items, Fields , Grids, Panes and Other displaying interfaces).

But the general idea is simple : grids show items that are in the data base depending on filters (those are mainly set in the source bar -- alt-s). So if you create a sub item meeting the grid filter, it might also appear as a top level item, depending on your settings (hierarchy on, full or not).

The same item can be seen at several places at once, even in the same grid : it can have multiple parents and also appear as a top level item. So erasing this item from the DB will effectively erase it completely from all locations. However you can remove parent links if necessary, or remove some field data to have it not appear in a grid anymore (as the only reason an item appears in a gris is because it meets the grids set filters), and while the item won't be visible in your grid, it'll still be recorded in the Database (if you use the quick search Ctrl+F, you'll be able to find it and maybe assign some new data to it so that appears in some other grids, or whatever...)

I'll suggest a setup for your grids and see if that helps :
-  Grid (menu) ->  Hierarchy  [ON]-> Full Hierarchy [ON]
- Grid (menu) -> Save Item state

This should prevent the items from appearing both as Top Level  and as Sub items (it forces the grid to not display sub items meeting the grid source filter as top level items too). In some case, you'll face the problem again, but I won't go into these exceptions now... Just tell me if those settings help. Then if you still face the problem, we'll look at it more specifically.

Strange. I (or Pierre) will have a look at it.

Thanks !

Thanks Armando.

I will try the filtering solution you suggest. You guys are running a very responsive forum. I'll keep these observations coming.

Hi Will,

You're welcome.

Quick note : the best way to tell if 2 or more visible items are in fact really the same items shown at various places (not just copies), is to compare the items IDs. Here are a few ways :

a- If your HTML pane is visible (or on autohide), the item ID (IDItem) always appear on the HTML pane's tab/bar (ID = .......)

b- the item ID can be seen near  the top of the properties pane (F4) : ID Item, in item info -> item properties section

c- you can also add a column in your grids to always be able to see the item ID
