There appears to be a bug related to images in the HTML pane, at least on my system.  I've been taking notes today.  Sometimes I find it easier
to do an image capture using FS Capture and then paste the image in the HTML pane.  A few minutes ago I found that an image I'd pasted earlier was gone.
Then I found that all the images I'd pasted all day are gone.

I've confirmed that whenever I paste an image in the HTML pane, move to another item, then return to the first item, the image has disappeared.  Restarting InfoQube did not fix it.

I have to admit I'm growing increasingly frustrated with losing work in InfoQube.  This is just the latest example.  In an unrelated incidenI earlier today, I created a subtopic and typed in some notes in the HTML pane.  I went on to another item to work on.  When I looked down, the previous subitem and all its notes had disappeared.  I confirmed that it's gone, not just missing from the view (I viewed all items by creation date - it wasn't there).

I was really enjoying the note taking process in InfoQube but right now I'm at a loss as to what to do.

I re-booted my computer.  My work is still gone and any new pasted images in the HTML pane are still disappearing.  I'm at a standstill with my work and
don't know what to do.  I switched back to RightNote for a while but I really don't want to do that.  I like InfoQube much better.

In case Pierre isn't able to address this in the short-term I'm thinking my options are:

1) try installing an earlier version
2) put the images in the grid instead of the HTML pane (that seems to work but I really don't like them there)
3) put the images in a PDF file then open that file in the HTML pane.  That works but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

Hi Wayne,

What version are you using at the moment ?
I'm currently on Pre-Rel29 -- didn't move to 29a as I'm not using the special checkbox in the item field.

I tried loosing data in the HTML pane and I'm not able to....
What are the exact steps I could try to reproduce the problem ?

I'm in 29a.  Steps: capture an image using FS Capture;  paste it into a blank HTML pane.  The image shows up and looks fine but when you leave the current item then come back to it, the image is gone.

It looks like I haven't  lost images that were pasted in previous InfoQube versions.  That's a relief.

OK, I was able to reproduce the problem by not entering any text in the HTML pane, just pasting an image. The image is then not save. If I write texte before or after, the image seems to be saved.
Can anybody confirm that ?

I confirmed what you just found: if you have text in the pane the image appears to remain as it should.  It's when you paste it into a blank pane that it  later disappears.

I never use the html pane nor do I store images in IQ, so I have not encountered this. I did follow your steps to replicate the issue and yes, it occurs as you describe.

Using 29a portable.

Jon,

How do you handle things like graphs and tables when you're taking notes on a book or article?  Or maybe that doesn't come up for you.
For me, it really adds to the verbal notes and saves time.  I guess the other, maybe safer, option is to create separate files for the  images
and link them in InfoQube.  I don't think that's as nice as having them display alongside your notes in InfoQube.

I'm sure this will soon be fixed.
I do use the HTML pane as you describe, Wayne. However, I usually use the "add item" dialog to do so (as it's mostly for clipped images) and save as MHT. MHT format doesn't seem to have this problem at the moment.

I generally don't use IQ in this manner. If I have to, I link.

I can confirm that this is a bug. I'm using the HTMLText property to determine if something was added to the HTML pane, and if you only add an image, this is an empty string.

I'll fix it and issue an interim release tomorrow.

Wayne, I'm sorry for this bug. As a compensation, I can offer you a free IQ personal license. Data loss cases have been extremely rare in the years that IQ has been in beta, so my excuses for this bug. As such however, not all is lost as the screen captures were still saved, in the yourfile.files folder. To know how to associate the each image with the correct item, you can use the image file name which contains the Item ID.

If you need assistance in doing this, I can help !

Pierre,

Thank you for your attention to this.  Since it was just work for one day I think I can retrace my steps and re-do what's missing.  I was more worried that I had lost images from previous days, and that doesn't appear to be the case.

I appreciate your generous offer of a free offer license but I decided to make a donation instead.  I want you to keep doing what you're doing and I hope you're able to carry your project through to the end.  This is the replacement for Ecco Pro I've always hoped for, and much more.  I think that's the highest praise I can give you and it's well-earned.
