I created a Grid with Projects and Times for each.

I use

1 - Clients [Parent to Projects]

2 - Projects [Parent to Tasks]

3 - Tasks

4 - Task Time

5 - Task Date

6 - etc.

I use SUM Parent > Children in Clients, Projects and Tasks so I can get the Totals for all Task related to each Project and Totals for all the Projects Related to a Client.

It works well, but when I use a Date Filter the SUM Totals are always the same.

Is it possible to SUM only Visible items? Something like: If I don't use Filters then "All" are visible and the Totals are calculated ( this is how it is now). If I use a Filter then SUM only those ones visible.

This would cut down the use of our database in half because we have a lot of stuff similar to this and we use tons of reports on the fly based on many filtering systems.

We are beginning to see a possible switch for many tasks that can be done with SQLNotes.

We are working with it with a very open mind ready to negotiate several already implemented solutions.

The hierarchy operations are specified and done at the field level, so they cannot be dependant on a grid filter. To do what you want, use the pivot table, as it is grid specific

Alternatively, you can open your IQBase grid in Excel and Access, both of which would allow you to compute totals. Finally, if you select the values in the sub-items and right-click > info, will compute for you the sum.

Yes, the Pivot Table does it, not visually as good as the grid but for now we can get some data out and the Info on selected items is really clever.

Something came out this time because the grid is not functioning as expected.

I must have done something different few days ago while experimenting with SQLNotes and, by elaborating on the original idea, I must have made some changes that drifted me away from the first working template.

I can not use the Date Filter (or any type of filter) on any Children unless the Parent contains some data in the DateCell as well, and since we are looking for a range of days, this is not possible.

And since we have Clients, Projects, Tasks cascade I'm having already two Parent needing data. We have also reports on several levels with more than 4 parents. Can this be somehow solved?

It seems strange that there is a limitation on filtering.

Again , maybe I am trying to run with SQLNote before I can walk. But the program looks too promising to just take it one step at the time.

Please provide a screenshot showing the source bar (alt-S to show). Most likely the issue is that the grid source is set for the parent and the filter is set for the sub-items. You need to adjust the grid source to something the sub-item have (check show context parents if you want, or drag the ItemParent / ItemGparent fields to the grid).

p.s. Once you see the pivot table, you can click on the Excel export icon, which will create a live link to your IQData. You can then add heading, text, etc to the excel file and save it. Send it to colleagues / boss who'll be able to view / manipulate the data (but not make any change). Great way to dynamically share your information

Show Context Parents also useful. I do not understand how to "drag the ItemParent / ItemGparent fields to the grid" but the Show Context did it.

Sorry for the spoon feeding. This weekend I will have to take care of going through the manual and forum. I need to test this program because I believe it will solve many of the management issues in my department.

We have a very Stiff structure and too many Free-Thinkers (including myself) working with us.

I like to purchase a copy but it seems that there is only a "Donation" or/and an offer for "a non-expiring version".

Can you elaborate on this if possible?

As you can probably guess we are Reports-Drive team and we prefer Database over Excel for pulling data from several tables trying to supply other departments with ever changing criteria.

Hopefully SQLNotes will "add to" or overtake our system.

You can drag the ItemParent and ItemGParent fields from the properties pane to the grid. Alernatively, you can right-click on the column heading > Displayed columns > and check these fields.
