I am working to generate reports in SQLNote trying to eliminate in part FileMaker.
I filter data by Dates. So far I can get the range that I need and I can see the Context Parents.
The challenge is that without the Upper Parent is not possible to establish the larger context of the report.

The Pivot table is not working because in this case we are using only 0ne Field with Sub-Items for everything except Numbers values and Dates.

It would be great to choose a Upper Context Parent "Level" so that we can be drill as deep as we need working with Filter on any Source Data.
Or maybe it can be done but I have really no clue after going around for a couple of hours.

I am trying different data structures to get what I need in order to migrate my databases into SQLNotes. I know I will have to negotiate different Pros and Cons but again this program is worth the efforts.

Thank you.

Pierre, I hope you feel better soon.
The other day I had to stop myself from working until collapsing on my laptop and take a good brake.

marco
are you familiar with the temParent and the ItemGParent (Item-Grandparent) fields ?

Of course, if you're showing context parents and have the ItemParent field open you can see the "grandparents" already,
and with the ItemGparent field you can see the great-grandparents of Top level items in fields.

Of course I can see the attraction of the method you suggest but thought I'd explain this way in case ...

It is either a bug in SQLNotes or in my own mind.
I dragged those two fields in my grid consisting of several Parent > Children levels and they are just Blank.
The Info Pop Up is also blank.
I did some search on the Site but only my posts are showing.

Tom, I am a little lost...

Thank you

[Also in the Properties Panel when I Open the Parent+ list it shows empty cascade lines with a + sign and if I click on it, it select a Parent field in the grid but you can not see any names in the Panel just + signs. Is this a bug?]

Can you supply a screenshot? Perhaps you're not using the Item field...

This is a sample grid. Also the Properties Panel shows "Parents: 1" but no names...
We rather keep the grid format over the Pivot Table if possible.

I even manage to just include in every Child the Parent name down to the last order so to see the lineage in the Date Filter and change the color of the fonts, to make the invisible,
based on a Yes/No field to show only on specific lines.
But it gets a little time consuming and more chances for errors.

I am going through the Manual a bit at the time. I just got the "Blue Screen of Death" this afternoon [first time] and I am trying to back up everything, and I had to slow down study the manual.
Than you Pierre for your time.
I can wait for your answer; you should rest.

 This is before the filter

This is with the filter with the Date source

OK, now I see.

2 important things to note:
  1. Use the Item field. In the Ecco concept, the item column is always used. IQ does not enforce this, but it is still highly recommended. In addition, it is the Item field which is shown in the properties pane and in the ItemParent and ItemGParent fields. (You used the Client field)
  2. You can use inheritance to have sub-item inherit the Project Name (Field management > Values -> sub-items). Same with Task if desired

It worked of course...now I understand.
Those ItemParent and ItemGParent are programmed to deal with the System Item field.
There is any way that by using VB I can create something similar so that I can go a little more deeper when I need to?

Thank you

Tom's comment is one way to go. Plus the pivot table will work, so summarize by parent, grand parent. If there is a need, I could generate the ItemGGParent field...

It is also planned to have the choice of how deep to show context parents

I'm feeling a bit better, but this is definitely a tough one

It is a tough one - I'm surrounded but luckily enough havent gotten it  (yet?)

just noticed that marco was also asking in the context of filtering - being able to filter grandparents
