Anyone else having a problem with open/restore not working?  For the past week it has failed for me at least 50% of the time, bringing up a blank view with no grids open.

Still using Rel66.

With 67a freshly 'installed', IQ froze when trying to automatically restore layout on opening file (see: How do I force file to open without restoring layout? ).

It was choking (in repeated attempts) on a specific grid -- there was nothing particularly unusual about it:
  • one hoisted item on display with sub-items collapsed
  • simple source, no other filters
I usually have ~ 6 grids open in a dual-vertical display.

Once I was able to open the file, I then enabled the option to 'Show restore dialog' on starting (1.3.4).
Have had no problems since then (but have only re-opened the file a few times since).

Just today, I disabled that option to see how it would get on.

I've put a "silent" update to v69 today. A combination of grid setting could cause a lock-up. Big thanks to IQ user gregory for sending his file. I was able to reproduce it and fix it !

Tom, you may want to try it, perhaps this was it !

HTH !

havent had any trouble since, but very minor after installing v.70 beta portable today.
On opening layout, the grid that IQ previously choked on, showed an item but it was blank.
Displayed correctly after refresh.

Not a problem but thought I'd report just in case it of help

and on refresh:

Note:
  • Grid name is simple text, no spaces
  • Grid was hoisted and then hoisted up one level (hence the two item IDs)
  • Context parents off
EDIT// this is reproducible -- to clarify: I mean on IQ restart, I get the same (blank) result for this grid

Yeah, I saw this too. This is happening for multiple workspace groups. Press F5 to refresh. Fixed in v71. Performance improvements in v71 too...

Seems to be fine here.

If anything, it's getting worse.  Not a big deal it you have one grid open but a royal pain trying to restore things if you have multiple grids in split views.  I don't know of any way to preserve these views other than to rely on InfoQube's "restore" which right now is failing.  Only solution so far is to just try to keep files open all the time.

Update: got an idea to try from reading the other "restore" thread.  I unchecked the "Restore Dialog" option and just left the "Restore Layout" option checked (both were checked previously).  First try worked.

FWIW mine is still working fine.
You could also try compacting or even repairing the file.

Can you actually see which grid it's choking on? (It was very clear in my example -- didnt help much but just looking for clues...)

EDIT// reread the OP, and see no grids open...

The layout is save serialized using | as delimiter.
Do any of your grid names have this character ?

I don't have any symbols in grid names.  I missed that you provided a fix in 69 so I'll try that.
