Hi,

I've been trying out InfoQube, I like what I see but I am getting a lot of crashes as I
use it, maybe 2-3 over the course of an hour or so. Very frustrating. It's hard to say
what in particular crashes it, if indeed it is anything in particular. The latest was as I
was trying out the "shopping list" tutorial - it crashed just as I tried to open the new
shopping list grid I'd created. For what it's worth, these are the error details:

Using IQ 0.9.70 on Windows 7.

Is this IQ, or my system, or both? There's no particular operation the crashes are
assocaited with.

David, this is not in any way meant to diminish your concerns, but IQ is one of the most stable apps I've ever used.  In fact crashes are so few and far between that when I experienced one recently, it was the first I could remember in over a year.  Hopefully Pierre will be able to help you get to the bottom of this.

FYI I'm also on Windows 7.

Have you tried the repair database function?  It can't hurt.  Tools > Database Management > Repair

Well there's no harm done, no data lost, I will certainly carry on learning and using InfoQube! I don't think Repair will have a role to play (though good to know it's there), as these crashes are in various databases, often practically empty, as I try out various tutorial exercises...

Hi David,

First I'd like to welcome you to the IQ community forum. Please feel free to ask any questions... any whatsoever.

IQ is not an easy program to learn, but at some point, I hope this will not be as long as it used to be, you'll hear yourself say "Eureka!  Now I understand, everything makes sense..."

OK, more seriously, if you're using the installed flavor, I recommend trying out the portable one. It tends to more isolated from the OS environment.

hi Pierre,

glad to be here!

On the crashes - I take it the error message doesn't tell you anything meaningful? I just checked and all the crash messages I took copies of are identical.

On the portable version - I'll give it a go. Do you lose out on anything by going that route? Anything the installed version offers that you would miss out on?

Hi DavidF,

First thing to try of course, is a fresh PC restart, one never knows. ntdll.dll is a Windows DLL, containing kernel functions

As far as the portable flavor, no, it is identical. The only extra step one has to make, is associating the .sndb extension with your infoqube.exe portable file, but this is optional. I typically just create a shortcut, put it on my taskbar and click on it. IQ will open the last file automatically.

thanks Pierre, I have downloaded the portable version and it is working as advertised (ie no crashes). The crashes have extended over this version of IQ and the previous one, and over several sessions, so it's not something a restart would help. Anyway I will proceed with portable IQ and see how I get on. (Still slightly curious as to how IQ can so comprehensively fail to get on with my machine, but the main thing is I have a version of IQ that works).

Looking forward to trying it all out and I will no doubt be firing off various questions as I proceed.

Great !

I suspect the issue has to be with registering a conflicting ActiveX version. You perhaps have another program which uses different versions of an ActiveX and the registration fails. The portable flavor isolates you from this. To find the cause, one would need to examine the registry... not a fun task. Have fun with the portable flavor instead !!!
