hi,

in Grid Options you can specify that the grid appear in the properties pane. Couple of things on this I'm not sure about. a) why are "Item" and "Notes" the only two fields that appear in the grid, even when there are other fields in the grid? b) If you check this option the grid will appear in the properties pane even when you're viewing other grids. Is there any signficance to this? Eg if I specify that Grid A appear in the properties pane, and then go to Grid B, in the properties pane I will again see, under "Grids", the fields for Grid A. But again, only Item and Notes. And what they actually show is content for Item and Notes in Grid B, not for Grid A.

Is the idea that you have another possible way of viewing a grid's fields, but as part of Properties, ie in an item-by-item kind of way rather than columns? In which case why only Item and Notes (unless this is some quirk of my setup that I only see these two fields in this context)? If I wanted to focus on Item and Notes for a particular item, I would use Forms and add just those two fields to it. And is there meant to be any utility in seeing the fields for one grid while in another (given that you still see the current grid's values for those fields)?

Hi David,

It works here as expected. Perhaps close and re-open the Properties pane.

And yes, when "Show in the Properties pane" is checked, the grid will show up under the Grids section and all grid columns. The grid then becomes a little bit like a simple form, allowing to view a set of field-values.

But isn't there always a Current Grid heading under Grids in the Properties Pane anyway which shows all the columns of the current grid?

And it is still a bit odd when the columns from one grid show up in the properties pane for another grid.

I don't know why it is, but there are two of my databases that refuse to show more than the two columns, Item and Notes, no matter how many columns are actually in the grid that has been added to the properties pane. (Closing/reopening the properties pane; closing/reopening the db). Other databases I have looked at work fine in this regard.

Anyway, it's not something I'm relying on. Forms, on the other hand, I have started to find incredibly useful... Letting you have "conceptual" groups of fields that you can add and remove at will.

... just an addendum to the above. I note that if I'm in a database that doesn't yet have any forms, I can expand Current Grid, under Grids, and all the columns are there. Once I create a form, Current Grid is still there as a header, but now there are no columns listed under it and clicking on it does nothing.
