When I am entering text in the Item field, I often press Enter to finish that item, and continue typing to enter text in the Item field in a new item.

Lately, however, I have encountered an annoying problem.  After I enter just a few characters in the Item field in the new item, IQ exits "editing mode" and goes into "navigation mode".  The cell I was editing suddenly changes to the "selected items back color".  So, to continue entering text in the cell, I have to reactivate the cell for editing.  Now, I can do this simply by continuing to type, but it causes problems for me.

I think it has something to do with the Properties Pane.  I haven't seen it happen when the Properties Pane is not open.  It's like something being updated in the Properties Pane causes the Grid Pane to go from Editing Mode to Navigation Mode.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am showing certain System Fields in the Proprties Pane, i.e. "ItemModified".

I'm not sure when I started having this problem (i.e. what version I first saw it in), but I know I had the problem in 0.9.83 and probably before that.  Maybe something to do with some Properties Pane improvements?

Hi Jim,
  1. Is the column set to WYSIWYG Editor or not ?
  2. Does it happen with a sample IQBase ?

 Hi Pierre,

The WYSIWYG editor has been off while this has been happening.  I will try with a sample IQBase.

Wouldn't you know it, even using my usual iqbase, it hasn't been happening for the last few hours.  No idea why it has abated, but I'll try to figure it out.

Encountered the same sporadic problem. Think it started in v83.
Am typing and suddenly out of editing mode.
Normal editor, not WYSIWYG.

It's particularly annoying for me because the first thing I type in the Item field is an Autohotkey hotstring - "/ddd" - which is immediately replaced by a date/time stamp in the format "2016.10.21.0905".  But IQ goes out of editing mode before I can finish entering the hotstring, or before the replacement can be completed.

Doesn't seem like Autohotkey is the problem, because it happens even if I am entering text that isn't a hotstring.

But I guess I should see if it happens even if Autohotkey is not running.

I can reproduce it when the HTML pane is visible. Is it your case Jim ?
When I close the HTML pane, it does not occur

When it was happening (all the time until yesterday afternoon), I'm not sure whether I had the HTML pane visible.  (I rarely use the HTML pane, and if I do have it visible, I usually just have a very narrow part of it visible - but when I just checked, it was on Autohide).

Anyway I just tried making some entries in the grid with the HTML pane visible.  The problem did not occur.

I don't know what I did to make the problem go away - it is possible my dog fixed the problem!  Literally!

Anyway I will keep a sharp eye on it to figure out what makes it come back.

Right after my last reply, it started happening again - both properties and html panes are open.

 continued testing.

shut down, restarted IQ, with properties pane and html pane open, non-wysiwyg editor - still happening.
shut down properties pane - still happening.
shut down html pane - behavior stops.
open up html pane again - behavior resumes.
opened up a new sndb with sample data, no wysiwyg editor, properties and html panes open - behavior is present.

So the culprit is the HTML pane it seems

Just started my work with IQ 84a today, and even with HTML + Properties pane closed, IQ exits from edit mode about 1s after an item is created+started typing.
So it has nothing to do -- here at least -- with HTML pane or properties pane.

If I create an item, wait 1s, and start typing, no problem.
Feels like something grabs the focus after I create an item. Maybe some background/other grid refreshing, don't know.
The weird thing is that it doesn't do it all the time -- but it can do it for a long time.

I has to do with the way grids refreshes certain fields (maybe even conditional formatting). I can clearly see it :
- I create an item
- ItemCreated or some other field is blank while I start typing,
- then those empty fields get refreshed and filled up (colors, dates ...)
- Then : edit mode is immediately gone

Depending on the grid, the time between that "refreshing"/edit loss and item creation is more or less long.
Certain "parameters" seem to make worse, but I haven,t pin pointed anything yet.

For one grid, hoisting an item makes it worse, and removing hoist completely alleviates the problem. For another one, it doesn't change anything...

Closing the HTML pane fixed it for me, at least for now.

I have the Properties panel, open, but all sections are collapsed - i.e. there is not a visible field that would need to be refreshed to be displayed properly.

I do have the "Item Modified" field as a column in my current grid, but I have Auto Refresh turned off.

Thanks.
Here, closing the panes did nothing.
I'm not sure exactly what steals the focus from the edition mode, but it's related to fields/other things/panes/grids/cells refreshing/filling up. It doesn't happen equally in all grids, and sometimes turning hoist on/off triggers the problem.
Here, auto refresh is off everywhere. Normally. I might have to triple check... eventually.
