Parents & Lineage

Submitted by viking on 2016/10/27 17:18
I have an item "current" in Grid 1. It has the following Lineage:
Item 1
...Item 1.1
....Current

I drag-drop the item (holding ctrl key to create a link) to an item in Grid 2:
Item 2
..Item 2.1
....Current

I now look at the Properties Pane and Parents (2) for "Current".

It shows:
Item 1.1
... Item 1

Item 2.1
..Item 2

1. It is a little confusing that the Items (Lineage) are shown in reverse order!?

If I select "Current" in Grid 2, it shows the correct Lineage (in status bar bottom left):
Rev. Lineage: Item 2 >> Item 2.1 >> Current

However, if I select "Current" in Grid 1, it doesn't show the Lineage:
Rev. Lineage: "Current"

2a. Why is the Lineage missing for "Current" in Grid 2?
2b. What does "Rev." mean?

3. If I select "Current" in Grid 2 and move the cursor away from the Grid, the Lineage changes to Today's date. If I move the cursor back and select "Current"  again, it still shows Today's date. I need to select another item in Grid 2 and then select "Current" again to show it's Lineage. Is this a bug?

Humm... too many questions.
On the status bar, lineage is as displayed in the grid, it can be normal or reversed

In the Properties pane, it is always shown in reverse, to show multiple parents

The Lineage is correct and shown normal for Grid 2, but the Lineage is incorrect for Grid 1; There is no Lineage shown at all, only the current item (see original Post). Must be a bug?
There is also another bug as described in question 3 (in original post)

Confusing  that it is shown in reverse. IMHO, it would be better to show it normal. It can still show multiple parents.

It currently shows the two parents (top levels) in the properties pane: Item 1 & Item 2 (except the Lineage is in reverse order).

I understand, but how would you show multiple parents and be able to follow the hierarchies to the top without going in reverse order?

Viking...
We've been working in and on IQ for years...
I appreciate receiving new ideas, but you have to do an effort too and stop seeing everything through your Ecco eyes.
Be open to a new, somewhat similar but different way of doing things.

Pierre,
No disrespect!.
I have used Ecco for more than 20 years and together with Ecco Extension (EE) since it was first released. In fact, I don't think that I would have stayed with Ecco was it not for EE features (most of which I believe IQ also has) and EE scripting (which I am not sure if I can reproduce in IQ yet). I am trying to decide if I should switch from EE/Ecco to IQ, and that is not an easy decision as it would take a lot of work, in particular to later modify my scripts where needed.

I am therefore trying to learn IQ as fast as I can to keep me focused. It is sometimes difficult as the Help file is not always up to date, and I am automatically thinking the Ecco way. I need to retrain myself and it is not an easy task after more than 20 years....

I am sorry if I have been bombarding the forum with questions. Please don't feel obligated to respond right away. I just want to put down my questions and confusion while it is still fresh in my brain.

Back to the Lineage/Parent issue; I am not criticizing IQ for how it is done. I think that it is great IQ feature that doesn't even exist in Ecco/EE!

One of the issues that I am not 100% sure if I understand is the Lineage in the status bar;
It shows the correct Lineage when I select the item in my "Reference" Grid.
However, the Lineage only shows the item text "Current" in my ToDo Grid

Maybe it is because the item is not a subitem, but main Parent (TLI) in the ToDo grid?

Ok, no problem

As for the doc, for such a large program, and evolving at the rate it is right now, it is a huge task to keep the InfoQube's documentation up to date. I do my best.
All users can chip in, that is why I'm using this Drupal-based community web-site, so anybody can contribute...

BTW, you should not be referring to the help file... as the actual infoqube.chm file is of course not up to date. Use the online version !
