Hi IQ Users,
  
In this release (v0.9.90a):
  • New: HTML Pane: Markdown documents (see Using Markdown documents)
  • New: EmailToIQ: Now supports embedded images and attached files
  • New: HTML pane: Ctrl + M toggles Browse Mode
  • Change: New color scheme (to better handle recent changes to the UI)
  • Fixed: Grid: Paste image was broken
  • Fixed: HTML Pane: Showing MS Excel spreadsheet in the HTML pane was broken
  • Fixed: Clipper: When sending a clipping using EmailToIQ failed, the dialog closed with an error message. Users had to clip again. Now, the dialog stays open so you can send it directly to the IQBase.
  • Numerous smaller issues reported in the forum

I was excited to see: "Fixed: HTML Pane: Showing MS Excel spreadsheet in the HTML pane was broken"
 
But spreadsheet is not shown in the HTML pane, is it?  For me, it just opens the file in Excel.  In the HTML pane it shows "Navigation to the webpage was canceled."

It is working here just fine. I'll test on a different system to see what settings needs to be changed
 
Just in case, the file you're trying to view in the HTML pane must not currently be opened in Excel

Doesn't work for me even when the file isn't open in Excel.  Your link had some suggestions for changing the registry which I haven't tried yet.

Running Office 2016 and IQ 0.9.90a here. The office files didn't open in the HTML pane here as you described until I changed the registry entry for "BrowserFlags" for each of the Office document types as described in Do "office" files show in your HTML pane - if so, please help

Thanks, John.  That was the same link I was looking at.  There's a lot of back and forth on that thread about what you need to do.  I tried to change the first registry setting but what I was seeing wasn't matching what I was supposed to see per the instructions, so I bailed on that.
 
I tried the second link and downloaded the Microsoft "easy fix" program.  When I ran it, it said it won't work on my operating system (Win 7, 64 bit).
 
It'd be nice to have this functionality but I know my limitations and can tell when I'm stepping into a time sink of complications.  For now, I'll just use links to Excel.

Someone at Microsoft has a good sense of humor.  I like that MS URL.

jdonlan, curious what OS are you running?  I'm going to make the changes when I get a chance, I'm also running Office 2016, with Windows 7.

Running Win 10 Pro here but AFAIK those Registry entries (I only changed the BrowserFlags values) depend more on the Office version than the OS. And again I only changed the BrowserFlags values for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Word.Document.12
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Excel.Sheet.12
to 0x80000024 (2147483684)
since I was only interested in .docx and .xslx files

To make changes to these keys, I believe that one has to start RegEdit in Admin mode (Start > RegEdit > Right-click > Admin mode). The same keys could have been changed in Current_User with the same effect

I changed the registry (in admin mode):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Excel.Sheet.12  to 0x80000024 (2147483684)
I then tried to open an Excel file in the Document Pane, but it just opens the file in Excel.

I am using WIN7 (64) and Office 2010

What is "method 1"?
Were you referring to Google sheets? Yes, that works now. Thanks!
However, I have many local Excel files that I would like displayed in different document Panes.

Suddenly, the Excel file opens in the pane :-),  but there are two issues:

1. If I select another item and then come back, I am always asked to open the file again. (I have several items with different Excel files in the panes). How can I make it remember/stick?

2. I am not able to switch Excel tabs (I can switch tabs when opening the file in IE11)

 

  • Method 1: From the link in my previous post
  • You can lock the Doc pane on an item (View > Lock pane). You can show additional Doc panes if desired (View > Document > New Doc pane). It should be possible to not be asked to open the Excel file... perhaps search the Internet
  • Tabs: Not sure why. May be a security issue

p.s. You may want to convert the htm file to MHT (Menu > File > New MHT document > Convert), that way it will always open in Browse mode
