No data loss however I continue to have weird problems (sometimes) with 5-6 grids + calendar view + html pane open, program open for a few days.

Stuff just happens:
  • to update data in a grid -- instead of being able to refresh w F5 or close / re-open grid; I'm never quite sure what will work -- I have to close / re-open program
  • some shortcuts stop working as crisply, sometimes they just stop... <CTRL>D being one of several
  • things slow down
Of course all this is becomes even more annoying because I have to re-set all my grids as IQ doesn't seem to have window placement memory.

Maybe it's Vista....

I do experience these problems too once in a while -- keyboard shortcuts don't work anymore. This bug appeared with one of the latest builds. (However, just changing grids fixes the problem. Annoying, but not to severe, fortunately.)

This is a bug. It could be added to mantis. I'll do it.

P.S. : BTW, it's easy to know if your grid is being refreshed or not. First of all, the mouse pointer should change for a brief amount of time to the "busy" symbol, as refreshing is not instantaneous. Second, you could easily test if the "refresh" shortcut is refreshing using simple tricks like : reordering your items by clicking on a certain column heading and then refreshing -- a refresh would reset the sorting according to the sort filter. Third, you could just click on the appropriate icon  : Grid->Refresh...

My problem is it there's no consistency. Sometimes <F5> will do it. Sometimes grid close / re-open. Sometimes program close / re-open. It seems  to depend on the function. I just find it all annoying. First of all, I think the program should just update on it's own as soon as focus shifts or <CTRL>+S should work as an auto-save or <F5> or anything should consistently update every / anything.

You can find info about refreshing in many places here. You're right that it should be more consistent. Automatic refresh is planed, and that question was already answered to you a while ago :  Refresh Questions

Manual refresh is good thing too... personally, I like that : very useful in many situations where you absolutely don't want stuff to be automatically refreshed -- outlook is very annoying when it automatically refreshes and items suddenly disappear without you having the time to check if the entered data is OK.

The basic rules at the moment are (mostly taken from Refresh doesn't work for me  but slightly modified) :

  • Changes / additions to items will be updated on refresh (F5)
  • Some changes to grids and UI require that the grid be closed and re-opened
  • Some option changes (Tools>options), require a program restart
That's it my friend.

I take your point (a good one) about auto-refresh. I'd settle for a consisten <F5> .... the standard for refresh we've all grown old with.
