I have a row equation:

AME:[Item]=[PaperTitle]

This works if I type text into PaperTitle - the value of PaperTitle is assigned to Item.

However, if I paste a value into PaperTitle using <ctrl> + V, the row equation is not fired and Item is not updated.

The workaround is specifically to edit the value pasted into PaperTitle.

Hi Mark,

Just tried it and it works

1- In a Sample DB, "notes" field: AME:[item]=[Notes]

2- Pasted "okqwokqweok" in "notes" and "item" got changed to "okqwokqweok"

Maybe you're confusing row equations and auto assign equations? Equations with that specific syntax belong to the auto assign section of your "paper title" field.

Hi Armando.

Thank you for correcting my imprecision! Yes, the syntax is for an auto assign and not for a row equation. But I am indeed using an auto assign; I mis-labelled it as a row equation in my original post.

I've done some further experimentation. The equation appears to be triggered if text is both copied and pasted from within IQ, but not when it has been copied in MS Word and pasted into IQ. That behaviour is independent of whether I work in a new or a well-established IQbase.

Hi Mark,

Perhaps it has to do with the Word document content as it is working here OK. Can you provide more details and attach a Word document which exhibits this ?

Hi Pierre.

Thanks for your suggestion, and you've put me on the right track. But...

Hmmm. Messy. The issue is specific to MS Word (version 2016 here, Office 365) but is not as simple as "Word cut and paste don't work". They do. I can cut and paste within Word and between Word and Excel.

If I copy text in Word and paste directly to IQ, the equation does not fire.

However, if the text is extensive, spreading over more than one line, triggering the dialogue "Clipboard contains n lines. What do you want to do?", the equation does fire.

If I copy text from Word and paste to Excel, then copy from Excel and paste to IQ, the equation fires.

I will continue investigating the possibility of a Word-specific issue.

In v96, I'll add Paste as Text command... it should help !

Now why didn't I think of that? Paste as Text will be very helpful for a number of reasons, not just the reported problem.

v96b appears to fix this problem. Thanks! Pasting as text is a little laborious: firstly you have to specify the format of the text to be pasted, then you have to specify whether the text goes into the current field or new items are to be created. But this is, I believe, a price worth paying.
