I am thinking it would be useful to be able to show an item in the context of a number of the items I created/edited immediately before the current item.  As well as many other possible contexts that could be defined in different grids.

The Shown In Grids links in the Properties Pane provides a convenient way to show an item in different useful contexts.

For example, say I would like to display an item in a grid displaying the items created/edited within n hours before or after that item, and sorted by the time of creation/editing.

However, I run into this problem:
"the "Shown in" section shows the names of Grids where the selected item is currently (not potentially) displayed."
So, if I have a grid showing items in order of creation date, that grid would not be shown in the "Shown In" section if the current item does not meet the filter being currently applied to that grid.
To do what I want to do, I'd have to go to that grid and change the filter of that grid, before it would be available in the "Shown In" section of the grid showing the item I'm interested in.  That's doable but not very convenient.

It would be great if I could show an item in the context of any defined grid, with an option to adjust the filter of the destination grid, on the fly, so that the item appears in it.
For example, once a defined grid is chosen, IQ could check to see if the current item meets the filter conditions of that grid.  If it does not, IQ could inform the user what filter condition is not met, and enable the user to change it on the fly.

Hi Jim,

The Journal grid can do that (with the hierarchy set to flat list)
(or any grid that you apply the DateFilter toolbar)

HTH !

But wouldn't you have to manually reset the Journal grid date filter so it would include the item you want.?  Perhaps you could have a "Show in Journal" right-click option which would show the current item in the Journal grid, and set the date filter to some range (same day, same week) that would include the current item there.

Correct. But it takes just a few seconds to click on the DateFilter buttons to do so. It is something you need to do often ?
