One of my most common tasks is creating a new grid and assigning items to it.  I find the existing set up for doing this to be a little cumbersome:

1) Create new grid (InfoQube automatically creates a matching yes/no field and sets it as the source - very nice)
2) Right click on forms> manage forms
3) Scroll down list of fields to find the one you just created (cumbersome)
4) Select field

My question: is there a more straight-forward way to do this?

My suggestions for improvement (either or both):

#1 In new field dialogue, add an option for "assign to form"

#2 In context menu: add right-click grid tab>add to form

Thanks, Pierre.

You probably know what I meant but #1 above should be "in new grid dialogue, add an option for "assign field to form"

I agree it is cumbersome.

Perhaps when you select 'Manage Forms' the most recently created form field should be selected by default.  If you don't want it then you can scroll to the one you do want but this is no worse than having to scroll from the top and the most recently created form field is probably the one you wanted.

Hi Paul and Wayne,

In v107, I'm planning on adding support for drag-drop of fields to the Forms section of the Properties pane. Would that be good approach for you both ?

That would probably be good but I would have to try it out to know for certain.  Thanks.

I'm certainly not opposed to the proposed change.  I guess I still like my idea (surprise) of adding it to the dialogue so you can directly add it to the form when you create the new grid and field.  That way you don't have to hunt it down in the field list immediately afterwards, which you'd still have to do in order to drag it into the form.

It's not a critical issue for me.  I'd be nice the way I propose it but if it's difficult to do or you think your way would work better for more people, I'm fine with it.

Not quite, as you can sort the field list in the Field Management dialog. Sort by ID and you've got the new fields right there

But I'm certainly not against your suggestion. Will do too
