Version v0.9.106c is now available: 
  1. New: Calendar: Google Calendar Sync: Support for repeating events. This is the second step in implementing Google Calendar sync:
    1. v105: Read-only view of non-repeating events
    2. v106: Support for Repeating Event
    3. v107: Read / Write for non-repeating events
    4. v108: Read / Write for Repeating events
    5. v109: Support one-way sync to InfoQube items
    6. v110: Support two-way sync to InfoQube items
    7. v111: Calendar UI improvements
  2. New: Calendar: Improved navigation with mouse and arrow keys
  3. New: New Item dialog now supports drag-drop of text to the Item text box
  4. Fixed: Calendar: Changes done in the Properties pane was only applied to the last selected event
  5. Fixed: New Item dialog is not always shown with focus
In v106c:
  • New: Grid: Add/Remove column dialog now opens with the current grid columns at the top of the list
  • New: Grid: Default columns to show item font and colors can now be set in Tools > Options > This Database > General
  • New: Grid: Improved scrolling with mouse wheel and touch pad
  • New: File > Properties now report the number of events
  • Fixed: Click on the EmailToIQ on the status bar no longer imported emails if auto-import is off

BTW, v106a fixes a few small issues and adds a checkbox in the Google Connect dialog to schedule a full sync.

I's actally less than that but still quite a lot (probably 15 000 or so). That's because I haven,t synced all my Outlook events to Google. I'll guess I'll have to, eventually!

Well, may be yes, may be no, depends on the relevance of having such historical data in your main IQBase
 
BTW, in the next version, the number of events will be reported in File > Properties, along with the option to sync calendar from a fixed date and onward only.

I like to keep/archive past events in my calendar (goes back to 2001 I think -- since I have a few calendars, that means an average of about 12 "events" -- whatever that means -- a day).*
 
That said I could have a separate DB for events older than 2-3 years. I'll think about it.
 
It brings one question to the surface (not that one, the other): is it possible to painlessly import Outlook events directly into IQ (not talking about syncing here, but really *importing*)? 
Because I noticed a while ago that Google Cal seems to have an event limit for syncing (around 10 000). And that means that I wouldn't be able to bring all my Outlook events into IQ going through the Google loop anyway; I'd have to bring them directly through Outlook export options and IQ import.
 
I guess I'll have to try, unless you'd recommend not to..?
 
* People don't burn photographs because they're more than a year old. Similarly, I don't burn stored events. And I don't feel like going through the uselessly long process of deciding what event to keep and which one to throw... Nowadays, events don't take enough space on my hard drive to justify eliminating them; they're a small fraction of a small fraction of a small fraction... So I keep them. Interestingly, big corpos think the same : they keep people's data long after those same people have deleted their own.

  1. re: Archived events: With IQ, you more options than other calendaring apps. To not to lose this information:
    1. An item, with a date and optionally a duration, isn't the same as a calendar event ? With IQ's extensive filtering capability (namely the DateFilter toolbar), you can find any of the historical stuff
    2. The Google sync right now does not create an item. Future version will have this option of course. As long as all events show up in searches, you could decide to keep these as "events" only (in v107, events will show up in live-search)

    1. AFAICT, Google Cal 10,000 limit is not the number of events in your calendar, but the number of events updated in a short time frame. Surely we can work out a sync scenario to sync as many events as needs be
    2. Yes, a direct import of Outlook event is an option. Can't you already do this already, through CSV files ?

#1... that's the beauty of it. Yes I thought about associating only a fraction of items with the calendar, and keeping others out of the syncing process. #2 : yes of course.

#1 : Yes, you're right. And I remember clearly trying to put back all my outlook events in there, painfully, a few years ago, 9000-10000 events at a time. I just decided it wasn't worth the trouble as I had (and still have) my own local copy (I did 2-3 years worth of events and stopped as Google mostly for syncing purposes. (I'm among the ones who don't like the Google interface that much -- IMO Outlook is superior, offers more details, options, etc., some of which IQ already does).
 
#2 Yes, I know I should try. I was just wondering as there can be some problems with those CVS files, sometimes. (You know when there's stuff/"rich content" in the notes/details/description part of the event).

As this progresses, will there be a point at which we'll be able to see a list of our Google calendars over on the left, so we can enter an event on any of them?

Of course, the UI will be changed progressively, to something pretty close to Google Calendar layout, with similar options.

Haven't checked it out yet but thanks for adding an option for default columns to show item font and colors.

Update: checked it out and it works perfectly.  I especially like that it updates all existing grids with the new default.  Means I don't have to manually change all those grids I hadn't gotten to yet.

Problem with ctrl+arrow while editing in NON wysiwyg editing mode : doesn't work.
Other stuff seems fine!

There are only 4 possibilities : up, down right left. I'm talking about Ctrl+left/right arrow : allows to skip words instead of going from char to char. (and If you add shift, it allows selecting full words.)
It used to work no problem as in any text editor/word processor. It still works in the pop up editor, but not in NON wysiwyg
I always use that while typing/editing... much quicker.

Hello from Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where I am working for at least the next few months. My apologies for not being a very regular poster at the present time.

I am greatly appreciating the Google Calendar sync functionality. However, I have one niggle. In the standard InfoQube calendar interface, when a calendar entry has focus, left and right arrow move to the previous or next event. This does not work with events which are synchronised from a Google Calendar.

Confirmed, a change was made a few versions back. Left - Right arrows now simply move the calendar view a fixed amount of time (day, week, month, depending on the current display)
