Is there any plan to update the clipper to work in latest version of Firefox? I had to update to Firefox 59, 64 bit because my old 32 bit installation was becoming unusable.

I spent 45 minutes going through the universal clipper instructions but couldn't figure out how to make it work as conveniently as the clipper addon.

I want to capture a link to the current webpage in one simple step without having to manually copy/paste the URL. Closest I came to that was getting InfoQube to automatically put the link in the HMTL pane but I want it in the URL field.

Side note: when you check "add clipping info" the clip has a misspelled word ("defailt")

It is of course planned, but only after completing the Calendar. Things are progressing well and v108 should be available soon.

As for the FF clipper, you have a few options:

I've installed a slightly older version of FF 64 bit and it works just fine (v56)
Select anything on the page and the Universal clipper will be able to grab the URL
(45 minutes ? really... I need to revise the documentation then... Select some text, press the hotkey, Win+C in my case, and voilà !)
EmailToIQ also works great (on all devices)

OK, I'll just wait. If only it were as simple as you suggest.

The time spent on this has nothing to do with the clarity of the writing. It was time spent trying to get it work conveniently and correctly. For example, when I do what you suggested, it does not capture the URL (the "clipped from" section in the HTML pane is blank).

If I try to just capture a link to the page: a) again, it does not capture the link; b) it puts the current clipboard info in the HTML pane (not what I want, so I have to select and erase that.)

I'm not going to go thru all the permutations I tried but I finally figured out something that works ok but not as good as the clipper addon.

OK, got it. To isolate the issue, when you clip from another browser, is the URL filled correctly ?

Same thing in Chrome:

If I look at the commands in the HTMLClipperTemplate.htm file, "ClipURL" is highlighted as a link. If I click on the link it says "file missing".

OK, and if before hitting the hotkey, you select some text in the browser page and do Edit > Copy (Ctrl + C). Then, does the clipper grab the URL correctly ?

No. It shows the copied text in the HTML pane but "Clipped from" is still blank.

Do you have a clipboard enhancer / manager running ?
Can you test on another computer ?

I turned off my clipper software. It changed the behavior somewhat but didn't fix it.

1) If I select text, and clip it, it now works reasonably well: It puts the text in the html pane and does enter the address in the URL field, which is good. It does not, however, add any clipping info at all. I don't really care about that but am just noting that it doesn't work.

2) It still doesn't work the way I'd like for just capturing links with no selected text. It still doesn't fill in the URL field, and empties the clipboard into the html pane, neither of which I want. So the workaround is to either: a) manually copy/paste the address into the URL field (this also puts it into the html pane), or 2) select a piece of text just to get the url field to work. This puts unwanted text into the html pane.

All of the above is in Firefox.

I can make do with no problem. I was just asking if a clipper update is planned because I've been unable to make the universal clipper as effective as the Firefox addon.

Hi Wayne,

OK, got it, so it seems that the main issue was with your clipper software. If you can share which one you're using, I can see if I can get it working.

As for the rest, except for the missing clipping info, it is per design. It is the best I can do for the Universal clipper. I can understand why you prefer the FF clipper and will resume work on it after the Calendar. FF v56 is not good for you ? EmailToIQ is also an option (FYI, the ##ParentItem flag is great to automatically place the item under a given parent)

p.s. One improvement I can make is that if the clipboard contains a URL, to add it to the URL field when clipping

I appreciate the offer but you've got more important things to work on. I'll do fine with things as they are and will wait for the clipper update down the road. No hurry.

I had only had a quick look at the exchange.

Universal clipper usually works fine and quick, without any complexities here.

But I did encounter situations where the clipping info aren't added at the end of the clip. Chrome works fine, but elsewhere it doesn't. Not sure why.

For the record, here's how I clip (anywhere -- and I never used the firefox one : even in firefox, I use the universal clipper):

- I first need to Select and copy (Ctrl+C). this is because for me, the clipper doesn't clip directly. It's an old "issue".

- I then invoke the universal clipper (whatever your shortcut is - mine is shift+alt+c). That's it.
