Idea is that one shortcut would bring focus back to grid -

currently if P.Pane has focus I press F4 - if HTML Pane, F12 (these would naturally be kept also)

on occasion I dont know what has focus - when I alt+tab to IQ, the grid usually has focus but not always (may be better with latest build)

If I dont know which of the other panes has focus it's quicker to go to the mouse and click than trying 2 diff shortcuts

Proposal is to use one key that will always bring focus to the grid regardless of what currently has focus

I think F9 would be a good key - it's easy to find on the board and AFAIK available

This one is important - I find - for ease of use

Another shortcut I'd like to implement is F11: Zoom (zoom grid, zoom HTML, etc), but that is a bit more work...

F12 - HTML Pane
F11 - Zoom (zoom grid, zoom HTML, etc) - [as you suggest]

F10 - Properties Pane

F9 - Focus back to Grid

I added the idea of using F10 for properties pane so as all the panes & grid are accessible from that "block" of keys

Naturally F4 (etc.) would be kept as well

this is now working nicely in a fresh install - F9 is the key to get focus back to grid from anywhere else btw just in case anyone is wondering

unfortunately F9 is not working in my install

When I try to give it F9 as shortcut - I'm told F9 is taken, but I dont know by what . . is there a way of checking what's using the F9 key? - I had a look in the user folder but couldnt find anything obvious there

[edit] I see on -- link to nonexistent node ID 145 -- that the F9 key is taken by "Re Calculate" under "Item" - could this be related?

Same as MSOffice, there is no way to see what a shortcut is assigned to except by looking at each command. It is sometimes easier to click Reset All (customize dislog).

[edit] F9=recalculate: yes that could be it. I re-assigned as I don't think people are using recalculate much.

F9 is working here but I would have thought <SHFT>F9 would then take me back where I was before (as with F12 & F4) but that doesn't seem to be the case. That consistency is good IMO because it is one less thing to remember.

Not a bad idea. But I still think that pressing shift-f4, and shift-f4 again (to hide properties pane) (same thing for shift-f12) should bring back the focus to the grid. As it is now, I have to press f4 again and again to bring the focus back. F9 could be an overall solution but shouldn't substitute for other bugs...

(I mentioned that focus problem a few times in the past)

I think I'm w Armando on this one. Same key combos (quasi toggles) are good because it's one less thing to remember.

Having said that

<SHFT> F4 or F12 should take you back where ever your focus was which might not b the grid.

<SHFT>+F9 could do the same except that F9 would always switch focus back to last location in grid.

Consider, someone might be switching between properties & HTML

and when the calendar & other views are introduced, it will only get more complex

or am I making it more complex just w this suggestion?

I think that one key to bring back the focus to grid could be good, although certainly not essential, and there are many functions that I'll miss before this one...

F4 and F12, for the panes, should be plenty if they functioned properly. They do, except when one uses shift-f4 and shift-f12 (to show and hide the panes), which I prefer to use (because having the panes visible at all times slows down IQ to a crawl on my computer).

There are other places where keyboard navigation is broken (mentioned in Mantis already) : in the add item window. Impossible to select a field in the "assign to" drop box, without using the mouse, and many shortcuts are broken (alt-d will tick the "save as html, alt-t doesn,t bring back the focus to the main item text entry box, etc.). The "assign to" text box is a very important one... It should be easy to navigate to it, and inside it an then outside of it using the keyboard, without having to always click my way in and out of it.

I dont really work "in" IQ - I mean, I Alt+Tab over to IQ to record some info, then back to my other programmes, then back to IQ a short while later, etc etc

Now when I Alt+Tab to IQ the grid should have focus and it usually does but not always - when it doesnt how do I know what has focus - which key combo do I press.

If you're working in the grid, then go to the properties pane and then back - naturally you want the P.Pane keys to work. This request is something for the person who drops in now and again so-to-speak and just wants to get directly to the $&#*% grid and maybe isnt sure where they're currently at.

This is a request which has nothing to do with whether the other keys work or not - and it's something important to me - I just want to say that so as you know I'm not just idly thinking up work for you Pierre!

Obviously it's up to you when or if you implement it ...

Point taken Jan about other things on the horizon which will be looking for Keys too

Normally the pane that has the focus has its title bar "highlighted".

And, BTW Tom, I do think that the suggestion for a key to switch focus to the grid is a good one. I just made the point that it would be good if the other shortcuts also worked properly.

okay, just checking that out, I guess I never really kept an eye on that ...
