This is a frequent task for me:
• Start with a "mixed topic" grid (eg Inbox) that contains a large number of items covering different topics.
• Create new topic grids and assign items to them so they can be cleared out of the "mixed topic" grid
• As new grids are created, assign the grid fields to a form to make it easier to move items to the new topic grids.
Since this is a common (at least for me) task that's tedious, I look for ways to make it go faster. I have a couple of suggestions.
1) Allow grids to be dragged directly into forms.
I've said before that I find the process of adding fields to forms to be awkward. I suggest adding the ability to directly drag a grid to the forms section and have the source field show up there. Of course, it doesn't have to be a drag; it could be right-click grid tab>add grid source field to Form xxx.
This would create the following streamlined work flow:
a) Select item
b) Create new grid for item topic (the "+" tab has been a great improvement for doing this)
c) Drag grid to form so subsequent items on same topic can be easily assigned to new grid.
Maybe it gets a little complicated if the grid source is different from the grid name, but I think it would be worth it.
2) Stop the item section from automatically opening
I have a rather long list of fields in my primary form. I have to keep it centered so I can see all the fields. However, the following actions cause the item section of the properties pane to open and the view to shift to the top
a) Creating a new grid.
b) Adding a field to a form
Each time I do the above, I have to close the item section and scroll down again. Maybe there's a reason the item section needs to do this?
Bonus suggestions:
Make form editing more direct (select/drag fields; right-click> add field; right-click>delete field)
