I have read through the documentation on setting up Email to IQ but I get a connection failed. I have done everything that I can tell correctly. I can use some help at this point.

Hi John,

2 questions for you
1) Do you have 2 step authentication enabled ?
2) Did you generate an app specific password for IQ ?

I tried the 2-step auth but I did not see a place to put the code when it is given to me.

Thanks,
John

Google may have made some changes since I wrote the doc, you need to use an application specific password, not your account password
To create such a password, you must enable two step authentication. Once you have the password, you can disable it if you wish

Thanks, I finally figured out how to get an app password. Here are the update instructions on how to get that password. If you don't mind updating your documentation that would be great. In the instructions below I used Other.

Generate a new password for an email program, utility or add-on to access your Gmail account through IMAP or POP with two-step authentication enforced:

  1. 1. Click your name or photo near your Gmail inbox's top right corner.
  2. 2. Follow the My Account link in the sheet that has appeared.
  3. 3. Click Signing in to Google under Sign-in & security.
  4. 4. Under the Password & sign-in method section, click App passwords.
    1. If prompted for your Gmail password, enter your password over Enter your password and click Next.
  5. 5. Make sure Mail or Other (custom name) is selected in the Select app drop-down menu. If you selected Mail, choose a computer or device from the Select device menu. If you selected Other (custom name), type the application or add-on and, optionally, device (like "Mozilla Thunderbird on my Linux laptop") over e.g. YouTube on my Xbox.
  6. 6. Click Generate.
  7. 7. Find and immediately use the password under Your app password for your device. Type or paste the password into the email program, Gmail add-on or service immediately. You will not see it again.
  8. 8. Click Done.
