Hi IQ Users !

As far as IQ Dev is concerned, it is generally clear in my mind what next steps need to be.

It seems there are too many options right now, so I've got a small survey for you as to the next feature you'd like implemented:
  1. Finish Calendar / Google Calendar work (1 month)
  2. Google Tasks sync (to get your tasks on your mobile) (2 weeks)
  3. Plain text / markdown document types (2 weeks)
  4. Cloud-based sync / collaboration (2 months for a prototype)
  5. Audio recording (for classrooms / meetings) and sync with IQBase content / Doc pane handwriting content
  6. Doc pane handwriting OCR
  7. Evernote sync
  8. Notion.io sync
  9. Your suggestions

I think #1 should be a priority.
#2 would be very nice as well

Speaking solely for myself  :-

1.  The Calendar is important and has been on the agenda for some time.

I also feel that the Surface has a lot of unrealised potential.

2,4,7 & 8 Are linked and perhaps should be tackled together.  For me these things are not so important.

3.  Plan text and markdown embedded in the database might be nice to have but for me it is enough to import a plain text file as a HTML document.  So this one is perhaps not so important to me.

6.  Doc pane handwriting OCR is ambitious and might be a LOT of work.  Again this is not so important for me.

8. Notion.io sync - What is Notion.io ?   Is it used by many people who use InfoQube ?

If not then this might not be the most profitable use of your time.

Of the ones listed, I'd be most interested in #1 or #2 but I'm really most interested in my own #9: continue to improve InfoQube's ability to customize information display.
For example, incorporate some of the formatting that Excel offers::

1) Treat each item in the grid as a cell with fully independent formatting (font style, font color, background color, border, etc).  I know this can be done to a certain extent now but, for example, background
color is more effective and attractive when applied to the whole cell rather than just the text.

2) Provide fully customizable borders of varying thicknesses and linetypes that can be applied to individual items or groups of items.

3) Improve the display of images in grids.

4) More formatting options would make a "format paint" function valuable.

I could flesh it out with more thought.  I had a thread on this a long time ago. Here's a simple example from Excel that shows some of the capabilities I'm talking about.  This is more to display the
different options rather than a real-world example of what i'd do (formatting is a little over-the-top).:

Of those listed, #2 Google Tasks sync would be the one most useful to me.  I like the other ideas too though.

My own suggestions -
(1) a file sync mechanism like Ecco's, which is item-level or perhaps even field-level sync, eliminating possibility of data loss
(2) a filter builder like this - https://infoqubeim.com/drupal5/?q=node/2812 - would provide a good way to see and change all the current filter criteria all in one place, without need to remember SQL syntax
(3) I have some ideas for integration of IQ with file system files.

The primary consideration really should be what brings IQ closest to Version 1.0 and dumping the Beta qualifier. First, make IQ a fully functional Stand-Alone WINDOWS application with a clearly defined feature set. This doesn't mean ignoring Google / Evernote / Notion.io integration or Cloud-based sync but those have to be secondary considerations.

You need to decide what qualifies as an adequate benchmark for Calendar functionality. This may include complete Google Calendar integration but it should not be a limiting factor. Likewise, you need to determine what level of Task Management is important.

As the last few months have shown, EXISTING users are an endless source of suggestions on how to enhance existing functionality and many of these requests have added immensely to IQ's capabilities. At some point though, the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

You already "HAVE" IQ's EXISTING Users; the real question is what features are most likely to bring in NEW PAYING users. IQ is ALREADY LIGHT-YEARS ahead of EVERY other Windows-based Information Manager. Put a fork in it and move on!

I'm as guilty as anyone here in making requests and suggestions but if you check closely you will see that most of these revolve around how make it easier for new users to grasp the concepts underpinning IQ. Time to decide on a final feature set, complete the Documentation and release Version 1.0!

What attracts new customers is not necessarily the same as what enhances the use of the program, the two are similar but not identical.

So, what attracts new customers ?
  • A slick and stylish website which illustrates the many advantages of InfoQube.
  • A full feature list (InfoQube already has this in spades) comprehensively and graphically illustrated on the new slick and stylish website (a picture is worth a thousand words ∴ plenty of screen shots).
  • Features which enhance the aesthetics of the program like themes/skins or CSS styling of documents.
Many people judge things visually before they read a text and the probability of them reading a text is inversely proportional to it's length.  The longer it is the more motivation they need to read it so splitting long texts into short paragraphs is preferable.  But the best solution for advertising in my opinion is to express things in short concise points ending in a link to a longer text where they can read more if they feel inclined.

Hope this helps.

I concur with DragonGem. I would like to know what it will take to get to v1.0. And then work on things that are already in IQ and make them better. For example Find and Replace.

But looking at the Road Map that you have provide and looking for votes. I would go with #3, #1, #2, and #4.

DragonGem was reading my mind with his concerns. I think it's time to get back to the calendar UI next, unless you want to take it "easy" in December, and pick #2 or #3, a  2 wk item to fnish out the year.

Is my understanding correct: V111 is Calendar UI and Sync, so #1 (calendar), #4,#7,#8 (sync) are what's required for version 1.0?

And would #3,#5,#6,#9 be post version 1.0 unless relatively quick and easy to implement?

I'm refraining from making requests unless bug-related; HOWEVER, if you tire of major features, and want to implement forum title capture snapshot 2018-11-08 sync, I believe that would be an incredible knowledge base resource, and possibly a selling point.

Another big vote for 1 and 2.  IMO 3-10 aren't even close in importance to those two. I say 1 and 2 both with regard to my own needs but more importantly with regard to market needs and getting IQ to 1.0.

I second David H's comments. These two aren't of great benefit to me but they have been around for far too long and need to be finished. They are more a road block than a road map.

Thanks to all for your comments !

Tasks 1 and 2 it will be then.
