This does not show up for me. And how do I open an editor?

What window? HTML? Item? When I press F11 the zoom in/out toolbar slides down.

Please advise so I can experience these new features :-D

Hi David,

You probably need to reset your menus and toolbars. Right-click on the menu and select customize

Also, it is sometimes a good idea to delete the toolbar customization files and start fresh. For example, tooltips were not showing on all my toolbars (they were showing on the menu commands). Deleting the files fixed it

To delete, close IQ, and in your user's folder, delete the menu.dat and menuhtml.dat files

This is by design. If the command is greyed, this means you don't have any Item Editor opened

I love it!
Can I somehow click to go to Word, since I use mostly MHT form? (I need the item editor for tagging and fielding, then an easy way to go into word for any text/picture edits)
When I first tried the item editor, it seemed like it would call up the secondary mht editor when I clicked the "document type MHT file..." area.
Once I did the toolbar resets, clicking doesn't seem to call up any mht editor.

I'll check. Pressing F2 while focus is on the MHT doc should call up your MHT editor

 F2 works great. Thanks.

This is even more useful-look at the additional options: I can even see what folders it's assigned to, and fill in the notes field.

Hi IQ Users !

People often ask if and when IQ will ever reach v1.0... While this is certainly a valid question, I tend to compare IQ to Windows 10... a work in progress: a reliable environment that is both stable and evolving.

The next version is no different and v112 contains a number of changes, namely:

  1. View > Grids will be renamed View > Notepads
  2. Notepads can be shown in a variety of different ways, or views. Each view has advantages and disadvantages and together provide users with all the display options. Notepads have a new Default View property: Opening a notepad will open in this view by default.
  3. Some of the notepad views already exist, others will be added. For example, grids can already be shown with or without a Gantt chart, and in Timeline, Map, Pivot table and Pivot chart views.
  4. v112 will add a new view: Card View, a 2D space where users can display cards. Each card is like a good old 3 x 5 index card and shows the item name and Doc pane content.
  5. Other views will be added later on, such as a calendar view and a surface view (not to be confused with the Calendar and the Surface which are not linked to any particular notepad)
  6. Also new is an Item Editor, a floating dialog similar to the New Item / Clipper dialog which allows viewing / editing of most aspects of an item. User will be able to open multiple Item Editors. Closing and reopening an IQBase will restore these Item Editors helping users resume their work effectively.
I'm hoping that these changes, in particular the new Card View and Item Editor will help better manage the Doc pane content.

These changes do not affect the core functionality / database engine, so I don't expect any major issues for users.
Those that heavily customize the UI however, may find it tedious to repeatedly redo these customisations. Please hang in, I do believe that the changes will be beneficial.

So ... how do I bring up the Card View ?

The 'Item Editors' entry in the 'View' menu is grayed out except when an 'Item Editor' dialog is open.  The 'Card View' option doesn't seem to have been implemented yet.

A few observations (nit pickings).

When opening an 'Item Editor' it occasionally looses some text if you have been entering text in the document pane and haven't pressed the save button, i.e. if you edit in the document pane and then decide to open the item in an 'Item Editor' then the 'Item Editor'may not contain all the changes that were previously made in the document pane unless you press the 'save' button (just occasionally).

When re-opening InfoQube or re-opening the 'Item Editor' used previously it opens at the same size it was previously but it opens on the same screen as the InfoQube main window.  This is not a problem except if you had the 'Item Editor' open very large on the second screen, it re-opens on the smaller screen at its previous size which can be a little awkward.

The toolbar of the 'Item Editor' doesn't seem to be customisable yet.

There are two columns for 'Tags' and 'Fields' but the 'Fields' column is called 'Folders', is this a change in nomenclature? or is it a mistake?

On the whole this floating 'Item Editor' dialog is quite good but it duplicates the floating document pane to a certain extent.  It does throw in a few extra functions and it is good to have all these functions available in one place instead of having to switch panes and I will certainly be using this new functionality.

8. New: Tags pane: Option to auto-sort tags by name. So far, I have not been able to find this option.

The Item Editor is in some ways better to use that the floating document pane, it behaves more like a window and can be maximised on a screen.

What would be nice to have is a customisable toolbar.

Great !
Its persistent nature is also useful. So if you close the IQBase, on re-opening, you can resume work on your items.
You can customize the toolbar. It is done in the Doc pane. Right-click on toolbars and show the ItemEditor toolbar. You can then customize it. You can create new toolbars. All toolbars with names containing ItemEditor will be shown.

It is easy enough though to switch to the Doc pane to make some changes, save it and return to the Item Editor (which will auto-update to reflect changes made elsewhere)

The 'Item Editor' is definately growing on me.

Regarding the customisation of toolbars, I have moved all my customisations into new user defined toolbars.

It strikes me as an omission that one cannot place seperators (vertical lines with no function) into a custom toolbar.  Unless there is some way of doing this which is not apparent to me.

Hi Paul,

Great news !
Regarding adding separators, in customize mode, 2 ways:
  • Right-click on the button and check Begin Group
  • Left-click on the button and move the button to the right just a bit
Both of these are identical to good old MS Office 2000-2003 (pre-ribbon)

Hi Pierre,

The Item Editor is a nice addition to IQ; it packages a number of the important concepts into an easily understandable interface. I had expected the Document portion to be closer in functionality to the popup Document Editor but I assume that will be refined over time.

The major editing feature that I'm missing is the Collapsible/Expandable Headers. Looking forward to getting a better handle on how best to use this new feature. Keep up the great work.

I can confirm that if I go into properties for the program and select the 'Compatability' tab and set the High DPI scaling for all users back to the default the text becomes fuzzy, the lines in the hierarchy tree become more visible and in the 'Item Editor' dialog I get the same scaling errors as LeftEccoForIQ.

I set it back again and the problem goes away.

But the lines between items in the grid and the hierarchy tree lines are back to being too thin even on their thick setting.  But I don't mind, the sharpness of the text and graphics more than compensates for this.

v112Pre3 (Patch)  is now online !

The Item Editor is making a not-so-subtle change to the <BODY> portion of my Documents.

<BODY bottomMargin=0 bgColor=#ffffff leftMargin=2 topMargin=2 rightMargin=2>

automatically becomes

<BODY style="FONT-FAMILY: Roboto Condensed; PADDING-BOTTOM: 2px; PADDING-TOP: 2px; MARGIN: 0px 0px 0px 4px;
PADDING-RIGHT: 4px" bottomMargin=0 bgColor=#ffffff leftMargin=2 topMargin=2 rightMargin=2>
I don't know where this is coming from but it shifts the Document several pixels to the Left and embeds a Font that should vary depending upon selected StyleSheet. Roboto Condensed is the default font the I use for my Grids.

Version 0.9.112d seems to have introduced a change that is disasterous.  Version 0.9.112c worked more or less OK.

Now the text is enormous, about two and a half times the normal text size (I measured it), for both the document pane and the Item Editor.
Clicking in the text positions the cursor at some unexpected location.
Scrolling re-draws the text with random repeated parts and gaps, the text becomes a mess.

The figure of two and a half times is significant because the screen scaling is set to 250%.

The screen shot shows the effects of scrolling.

Hello Pierre,

I can't replicate the bug at this moment as I came to conclusion it's occurring when you're synchronising between two computers by using Dropbox-like sync (Dropbox, Onedrive, Google Drive)... and I'm missing the second computer now :)

The other bug that often occurred when I was synchronising between two machines, the same way as above, was the mess with passwords:
1. Gmail password was changing to some messed up characters, and I had to retype it each time I've made synchronisation. All the characters were changing, even the numbers.
2. I've once tested it with the app's main password - the bug existed in there as well, which means you're losing access if you password-protect your IQ and synchronise two computers as mentioned above.

Can confirm pasting outline to and from Ecco working nicely. (Have to use paste as HTML, though, rather than paste as plain text.) Very happy this has been fixed!

Thanks for reporting, I'll fix that

Thank Pierre
Here, version L (or maybe earlier) seems to introduce a bug with XML copying (full item). I don't have this problem with version H.
When I copy the XML way, it just copies the item value.

v112m is now online:
  • New: Grid: Clipboard now has (preliminary) support for OPML outline. On copy (tab delimited and XML), the clipboard contains an OPML format. On Paste Special, select OPML Format to paste as an outline
  • New: Tags pane: In Treeview, Alt + up / down / left / right move tags in the tags hierarchy
  • New: Tags pane: Double-click on a blank area shows the New Tag dialog
  • New: Tags pane: When filtering, if only one tag matches, hitting Enter will select that tag
  • New: Tags pane: When filtering, if no tag matches, hitting Enter will show the New Tag dialog
  • New: Item Editor: Use the filter textbox to easily add tags and fields
  • Fixed: Grid: Pasting items does not select all pasted items (non XML mode)
  • Fixed: Tags pane: Pressing space bar did not toggle the tag state correctly
  • Fixed: Tab close button was shown even when IQ does not have focus

In v112n:
  • New: Tags: Option to set the characters used to replace invalid characters (invalid characters are , ; # [ ] and spaces). Default is _ (Tools > Options > Other)

Hi Jérôme !

Most likely, this is because you unzipped the patch to a folder that didn't have a full copy of InfoQube. Simply overwrite an existing InfoQube.exe with the one in the patch

In v112o:
  • New: Gantt: Select one or more bars and press Delete (or Edit > Cut, Ctrl+X) to remove bars. Supports Undo / Redo
  • New: Tags pane: Double-click a tag will open the grid that has this tag as a source if it exists, otherwise, the Scratch grid will open
  • New: Doc pane: Pane context menu to open the item in an Item Editor
  • New: Properties pane: Double-click a field will open the grid that has this field as a source if it exists, otherwise, the Scratch grid will open
  • Fixed: Grid: Drag-drop an item to a hoisted grid did not assign the grid source correctly
  • Fixed: Grid: Changing the item font using the font dialog also changed the item text color
  • Fixed: Grid: Navigating columns using the cursor keys skipped over the Tags column
  • Fixed: Grid: Deleting an item that has sub-items but selecting the option to not delete the sub-items caused minor inconsistency in the IQBase. Use Database Repair to repair this

I've downloaded the zip file several times.  Each time I get a message saying "this type of file is not commonlly downloadable".  It shows a zip file in my directory but it's empty.

OK.  Firefox won't download it because it's flagged as a "dangerous file".  I got it with Chrome but when I tried to run it, Avast identified it as a threat and sent it for "interrogation".  Should be free i about 100 minutes if its story checks out.

Love the column movement options.  Took me a minute to figure out that you have to drag by the checkbox, not the column name box.

You can from the name column, just click and wait a fraction of a second before moving. The cursor will change to reflect that drag-drop is initiated

OK, I see.  It works a little different than the direct column drag.

1) In add column dialogue: click on row, keep mouse button depressed, and drag .  If you release the mouse button, it selects the row, and drag no longer works.

2) In direct column movement, however, you can select the column, release the mouse button, and still go back to select and drag it.

Humm... I don't understand. Here, in the Column dialog, I can select 1 or more lines, release the button, then click again (wait half a second) and then drag

Other UIs are identical (Manage Grids dialog for example). Those that don't support multi-select, such as Manage Forms, don't require the half-second wait.

Pierre,

Thanks.  It's nothing to worry about (from my viewpoint) but just in case you want details:

1) When I click on the column and drag it, it works every time, with no need to wait for the little box to pop up.  In fact, I never knew there was a little box.
2) When I click on a row in "add columns" I cannot drag it immediately.  I have to wait for the box to popup, and if I move the mouse even slightly during that time, the box will not appear at all.

In other words, the row drag is more finicky than the column drag on my system.  Even knowing exactly how it works and what I need to do, it still fails for me pretty often because apparently I tend to move the mouse a little when I do the second select to drag.

Again, I don't think it's anything that needs fixing.

  1. Understood, that's because columns don't have multi-select by drag. Like I said previously, the delay because multi-select was enabled
  2. By default, the dialog will now be in single select mode, which can drag-drop without any delays. Use the context menu to enable multi-select

In v112q:
  • New: Grid: Dragging a URL to a grid sets the item text equal to the page title (same as the web page clipper)
  • Fixed: Home Page did not set the correct menu state
  • Fixed: Grid: Entering Edit mode using F2 or double-click did not unselect other items

I can never get the patches to work.  I presume it's the same procedure as a regular installation: downlad zip; extract zip; run setup.

1) Firefox download: blocked as a malicious file
2) Chrome: downloaded zip but it was empty
3) Turned off virus protection: downloaded zip but it was empty

OK, there was no "keep" option but "open" worked.  Firefox really doesn't make it obvious what's going on.
