I'm finding a lot of my links to pdf files are broken (files won't launch).  I create the links by dragging the file into InfoQube and selecting:

create a new item
link should point to Shortcut to the file
hyperlink type: dynamic
link storage: file link fields.

I thought these settings would create links that would find files even if they've been moved or had their names changed.  Do I have the settings wrong for accomplishing this?  Trying to figure out what's going wrong.

Have the files been moved and have their names been changed?

I cant remember the details offhand, but I *think* it's that the shortcut files should find moved (etc.) files if the are still on the same drive (i.e. using same drive letter)

It's possible some were moved and had names changed but I wouldn't remember that unless it happened with a file I was just recently working on.

When I first started doing these, I tested some files by moving them around and the links still found them.

I was just wondering if I have the wrong settings in the link options box.

I just tried a bunch of links and they all worked so maybe I'm just "over-remembering" the times it doesn't (ie maybe it's not so bad)

Hi Wayne,

I few changes were made regarding how file paths are changed, perhaps that is it.
  1. The way to know is to double-click on the actual shortcut (in Windows Explorer) and see if the file opens
  2. Also, on the IQ status bar, it should dereference the link and show the actual file if it is successful.
Can you check the links that don't work and report back ?
