Twice now, when resizing and moving columns, I have had the entire interface "freeze," forcing the use of Windows task manager to end the process or application.  (Not sure exactly what the sequence was when the program froze, though).  Both times, though, I had just exited out of the Field Manager dialogue and started moving new shown fields from the right end of the grid to positions where I wanted them to appear in the grid.

Can you try to use one of 2 other methods to add fields to a grid:
  • right-click on column heading and select Displayed columns
  • Drag-drop a field from the properties pane to the grid
And report back if the freeze occurs with these methods. I never add fields from the Field Management dialog, so it is not as well tested

Thanks Pierre,

I'll def try that tomorrow.

The thing is, I was creating the fields in field management and they seemed to get checked for display as I did it, so I didn't even think about trying any other method.

Pierre and all,

Update:  I tried the other two methods, and had no problems.  In fact, I have used all three methods with no further problems.  Of course, I am using the portable version now, as recommended, so there may be an issue with the installed version. <shrugging shoulders>
