In the grid below, the paths to both images are contained in the File Ref fields (FileName, FilePath, FileFullName).

The pic of my dear departed Mom appears only in the Image Viewer, even though Grid > Show Pictures is turned on.

However, the pic of the battery in my hand appears in the grid cell for the "Item" field.     When that is the current item, the pic appears also in the Image Viewer.

So, I'm wondering, why does the battery appear in the grid cell, but my Mom does not?  Is it the image size?

Field contents for Item with my Mom's pic:
Item: Blank
FileName: 102_2404-800.jpg
FilePath: C:\cloud\Dropbox\pictures\Jim's Sharing Folder\

Field contents for battery pic:
Item: <a href=C:\cloud\Dropbox\pictures\gn4\phone\dcim\.thumbnails\1560049020937.jpg>(link)</a>
FileName: 1560049020937.jpg
FilePath: C:\cloud\Dropbox\pictures\gn4\phone\dcim\.thumbnails\

I tried putting a similar <a></a> tag in the Item text for my Mom's pic, but that didn't make it display in the grid cell.

Comments

I haven't had much success  with showing images in the grid:
currently when I add a new jpg image:
  • the image shows for an instant, then just the link is visible (see image below) -- the item retains the height of the image -- roughly the height of the FHD screen (this seems to depend on image size)
  • if I zoom in or out the item reduces to the height of the link-text
  • I am unable to edit the item via F2 (this may be due to dynamic link selection? see setting below)
  • EDIT// turns out the images show when IQ is restarted -- they're pretty big...
(wordwrap setting dont affect situation)

Thanks, Tom!  I see the same thing you see, even with very small images like the following.  A grid refresh made the following image appear in the grid cell - and it appears in the Image Viewer at the same time.  F2 to edit the cell doesn't work either in WYSIWYG or non-WYSIWYG mode.  I also used a dynamic link and the text that appears in the Properties pane, Item cell (in cell edit mode) is "<a href=[FileFullName]>(link)</a>".  You can edit the text there.  I also used Shift+F2 to bring up the Item Editor.  In the Item Editor the word (link) appears.  I haven't discovered how to get the Item Editor in non-wysiwyg mode (if it's even possible).  I added the words "testing testing" after the link, and when I closed the Item Editor, the image was replaced by "(link) testing testing".  I pressed F5 and the image came back, but the words "testing testing" were no longer visible.

Image in grid cell appears in print preview.  Nice.

I posted a thread detailing my attempts to get grid images to work: infoqubeim.com/drupal5/

I'd like  to use InfoQube to display images but haven't been able to figure out how to do it without using an external program to display the full images.

When I try to use the image viewer, it displays the image upside down.

Thank you Wayne, your posts were very interesting.  In your system you might find the ShareX screenshot program very useful.  For one thing, in addition to a full-size capture it will also create a thumbnail image of a size that you specify:

What's really great about ShareX is how you can automate many steps in your workflow:  Notice that one of the steps it will do is Print your image - you could print to PDF and then you would have your image ready to view in your PDF viewer.

Thanks, Jim.  I'll check that out.

One of the advantages of using an external program is having access to mark up tools that InfoQube doesn't have (nor would it be proper for it to have them).

For some reason, I keep thinking of how to make images fully functional inside InfoQube when there's really no need to do that.  Use InfoQube to list, sort, filter images.  Augment this with thumbnail views so you can do manual visual searches for an image.  But open the full images in another program (eg PDF Revu) where they can be edited with comments etc.

That's where I've been headed with this.  The one thing that would make this easier is if InfoQube would create a good thumbnail when I drag an image into the grid.  That would save several manual steps.  Maybe the program you suggested can help with that.
