Currently in my properties pane, fields like IDItem, ItemCreated etc. aren't shown. I'm hoping I may have disabled this with a setting somewhere?  I hope it wasn't caused by me deleting some system field I shouldn't have terminated...

I know of one option:
 
Field properties dialogue>select field>properties>hide in available fields
 
If this option is checked, the field doesn't show in the Properties Pane.
