Point me in the right direction if you can already do this.
 
Field dialogue has option: "Caption in grids".  Allows you to display a shortened version of the full field name.
 
I'd like the same capability for tags.
 
Example: I have a tag for items that have a graphic.  I can never remember if I refer to these as figures, graphs, charts, illustrations etc.
 
The solution to jog my memory is to incorporate several of these in the tag name so I can find it in the search box: FigureChartGraph. 
 
This works well for finding the tag but I don't want something that big in the Tags column grid.  I'd like it to display just "Fig".

I don't think you can do this right now, but what you could do is create tags for Figure, Chart and Graph and put these under the Fig tag
That way, when you search, you'll see the parent tag (Fig) and will be able to tick it.
